Compilation thread - Moon Clips vs. Speed Loaders vs. Speed Strips for 627

Moon Clips vs. Speed Loaders vs. Speed Strips for 627 - The what's (the difference), where (are the best places to get them), why (do I want them), and how (much do they cost). Also, the occasional thread/posts about pouches/holders.

One hybrid solution I have seen multiple times goes as follows:
-Have your currently loaded ammo in your CC weapon in/on a moon clip. This will facilitate a great, even dropping of spent brass in case you do need to reload.
-For your reload, use what seems to be the best solution for you, your rounds and your gun.

Currently I subscribe to the "Two (guns) is One and One is None" theory of CC. So my plan ATM is to use a Moon Clip on the ammo in the cylinder and carry a couple Speed Strips in my pocket.

I am a bit confused with your thread. I have a 27, but it is definitely not a concealed carry gun. I cc a Model 36-6 when I carry. In the course of PPC matches, I have used Safariland Speedstrips, Safariland Speedloaders, and HKS speedloaders. For PPC, I have used my K38, a Colt Trooper MKIII, and my 36-6. Speedstrips take too much time in the reload. I like the speedloaders. I have found that the Safariland worked better with full wadcutters, and both the Safariland and HKS speedloaders worked well with any cartridge which had a nose on the bullet. None of my revolvers are cut for moon clips, and I refuse to have them cut for moon clips. Given my druthers, I will always lean towards speedloaders!

I have several revolvers that are cut for moonclips. As far as I'm concerned they are the only way to fly. The two revolvers that I ccw are both cut for clips. For summer use it's a 640 pro, in jacket weather its a 7 shot PC 686.

The rounds in the gun are always clipped, depending on the situation my extra ammo may be either in speed strips or clipped. Usually it's the strips in warm weather and clips in cold.

I carry the clips and strips in a small "tech" pocket that my cargo pants have. I also check the extra clips from time to time to make sure they haven't gotten bent in my pocket. So far there have been no problems.

Sorry if I was unclear in my post. I am not sure what part but I will try to explain.

The PC627 is cut for moon clips. As of now I intend to carry the group in the revolver in a moon clip. My backup rounds will be on strips in my pocket.

I always carry a BUG when possible so this combo should be more than enough. Bug is a smaller caliber semi. holding quite a bit more ammo.

What I was trying to say, was that I don't have any revolvers cut for moon clips, and that I wouldn't cut any of my revolvers for them, because I have found a system for reloading that I am comfortable with.

To me, it appears that moon clips could be as fast for a reload as my speedloaders, without the risk of dumping cartridges during the rush or the panic of a reload under fire. Up front, I am cheap. I will not modify a revolver or any other firearm if it functions satisfactorily for me. If I bought a revolver that was already cut for moon clips, I would use them unless they didn't work for me.

Aloha,

Since your gun is cut for moon clips, use the clips.

I would suggest that you get More clips.

Get at least a dozen or so.

Also get a moon clip loader/unloader. It's worth it.

Next PRACTICE loading and unloading a LOT when you go to the range.

PRACTICE with the rounds you plan to carry.

Shoot Accurately, Quickly and Reload like Jerry Miculk.
