Did anyone catch the first episode of the "new" Tonight Show with Conan O'brien? What did you think?

I'm a big fan of Conan's, so I had been waiting for this for a while. I enjoyed it, but he did seem a little nervous.

I haven't watched him. I guess I honestly have to say I don't find him very funny. I was sad to see Leno leave. Hopefully Conan will find his nitch. I'm sure he will and he will be successful. It won't be due to my viewing however. I do respect the notion that you do enjoy his brand of humor.

If we all liked the same thing, life would be boring wouldn't it?

I think NBC had rocks in their corporate head to replace Leno. He is FAR more affable than Conan.

I have watched Conan's first two shows, and he seemed better than when in New York, but I still don't find him very funny.

I'll probably watch him only if I know that he has a guest whom I especially want to see. Same as when he was on later...

I can't stand Letterman, either.

I was hoping NBC would go out on a limb and select someone virtually unknown (at least nationally) for the job. Of course, they don't take chances like that anymore do they? Johnny probably wouldn't have got the job himself nowadays.

Then again, most of us here are probably not in the 18 - 37 year old age range the networks care about

On a related note: What do you think about Drew Carey on The Price is Right? Talk about big shoes to fill. I thought he was awful at first, perhaps unfairly...but he is slowly making the show his own and seems to be enjoying himself.

Conan is definitely has more of a cult following than a mainstream one. He does a great job with guests...letting the charasmatic ones shine while picking up the slack for the boring ones.

I don't watch too much Price is Right, but I still think Drew Carey looks out of place on that set. 'Funny guy though.

I believe it was Leno's choice to leave, not NBC's. I could be wrong though.
I won't watch O'Brian.

I still miss Steve-O (Steve Allen & Louis Nye).

Conan O'Brien looks like a red-headed praying mantis. He and Letterman, both with ego's I can't pay homage to, just don't do it for me... unless they have someone I really want to see... and that aint often!

My thoughts exactly, well said! I did tape and watch parts of it, wow, was it bad! I did enjoy Pearl Jam tho, I'm a grey haired rock 'n roller. THe rest of it, "Yawn", I'll not be watching anymore.

Seriously, I never watch TV anymore- too much smut, even in the advertisements.

Why would I want to watch and pay for TV when the forum gives me all the information and entertainment I need?

Not funny. Not funny at all as far as my wife and I thought. I watched him 3 nights and am sorely dissapointed. What's with that goofey thing he does with his coat and arms in the beginning of the show when they applaud? He's done it all three nights.

I'm with 'Stainz' after Steve ,Johnny was alright most of the times but the early ones were really funny, do not care for ANY of the ones that are on now....oh well we are getting older and to bed earlier ain't we.....

Jay Leno did a class job on the show. I really do not find Conan funny at all, pretty much a jerk IMO. Johnny and Jay were true pros.

I liked Jays last show were when asked what his legacy would be, it was not about him but about all the people that met on the show and had children. Around 60 something children born to during is 17 years.

I haven't watched network late night television since watching the OLD Letterman show with my grandmother when I was home from college in the summers. I know he was on CBS back then and I think he came on at 11:30 or 12:00 CST.

I watched Conan O'Brien once, he had a series of "commemorative coins" that used non obscene but sexually suggestive slang, on the next program he responded to what must have been a slew of complaints by saying:
"My job is not to offend you, my job is to bore you." You got that right.
I have always wondered who watches late night TV anyway. Here in the East "Tonight" comes on at 1130PM, in high school and later college and for most of my working career I usually turned in about 11PM to get up in the AM for work or school. Jack Paar was before my day, I watched Johnny Carson may 3 times in 30 years, usually to see someone I really wanted to-Bob and Ray on 2 occasions, I forget the 3rd.

I typically watch the monologue on the Tonight Show then switch to one of the sitcom reruns. I liked Jonny and it took me a while to get used to Jay, so it will probably take a while to get used to Conan, if I ever do. I never liked Letterman.
