Brian,

Having worked in the construction trades for most of my working career, that brought a grin to my face . . .

But I'll behave!

Good luck in your holster search.

I'm LE and have found that the method that best serves me is a low profile IWB holster with the shirt tucked over the butt of the pistol. I've carried up to a Glock 17 in that manner and as far as I know, never spotted. A G19/23 works well.

I am of slim to medium build. I try not to wear exceptionally tight clothing. For the last ten years, I've used an Alessi Talon clip IWB holster because the hard nylon clip is about the most inconspicuous that I've yet found. High Noon makes a couple of synthetic IWBs that are pretty slim and don't print a lot compared to most leather holsters. Some holster makers offer a "tuckable" holster, but they add extra leather bulk to the package, so they might print a little, depending on the person.

Prior to getting the Alessi, I tried a number of cheaper IWB clips, and usually had to do some "surgical" modifications to them to get them to fit me. I finally gave up and carried a G17 and 19, as well as revolvers IWB "Mexican" carry without a holster for a while.

I carry a small pistol on my ankle or in my boot on occasion, and suggest that if you're going to ankle carry, you should check to see how much your slacks ride up when you sit down.

Most of the time anymore, I carry my primary pistol in an OWB holster with my shirt untucked.

Some of the shirt-holsters such as manufactured by Kramer or 5.ll might fit the bill if maximum concealment is required. Some of the tactial clothing manufacturs also offer shirts and trousers that are designed for carrying firearms. I've tried some of them, but they didn't work well fo rme.

All in all, you have to take into consideration your build, the manner and style of clothing you're going to wear, and the size of the gun you're trying to conceal. Don't forget how you're going to carry spare ammo.

I'm in the construction business also and really struggle with concealed carry. I'm hot natured so I hardly ever wear a jacket, and I have muscular legs from years of weightlifting so a J-frame in my pocket feels like a baseball when I sit down. I visit clients at buildings that have a "no gun policy" so I would constantly be taking the gun out and leaving it in the truck. I always wear slacks and a tucked in shirt and about the only thing that works for me is a Kel-tec .380 in the front pocket. I then have to transfer my cell phone to my hip pocket and worry about breaking it when I sit down. Sometimes there's no easy solution.

Get a belt case for the Cell phone.

I use a JAK slide clone in med and small for my babies. I can go IWB or OWB with them. While the JAK is not designed to be tuckable I just blouse out the shirt over it and I have had no problems so far. If you want a jacket you can get them in light weight or a vest.

In dress pants in the office I carry my P-3AT in my pocket holster. Just outside the door is my 340PD in the console of my car.

Smitty

What! Did you stop doing the concealed carry thing with the 500 Mag ??

When I was a suit and tie guy in the 80's, I carried a 70 Series Gold Cup everyday, in a place where if anyone knew I would be fired on the spot. Inside the waistband is the only way to go, in my opinion. Now I work in a gun friendly office, but no need to scare the horses. Try a Galco Sky Ops.

When an un-tucked shirt is not possible I carry my 642 in a Renegade Cozy Partner ankle holster.

IWB with tuckable clips works well for me. I use the VM II for all of my firearms up to and including an N frame 4".

When I am in coat and tie, I am usually in a setting that is reasonably safe, church, etc., so I don't feel too out of sorts to have a small 32 auto or airweight chief in my front pocket in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. Low profile, easy on me, etc. I don't want to show it so small and in pocket is good choice. I have several different size handguns, large 45's etc., K frame 4 inch smiths, but always had a couple of small ones.

In a suit and tie or sports jacket and slacks I carry an Interarms Walther .380 PPK in my front pants pocket in a Mika custom PPK holster, mainly due to its slimness. If I know I won't be removing my jacket, then my 5" Nighthawk Custom 1911 in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II or Axiom holster works great and are both extremely comfortable. Sometimes I opt for my 4" 686 in a Milt Sparks or a DeSantis custom holster.

I wear a Milt Sparks 1.25" dress belt with a suit or slacks or a Milt Sparks 1.5" sharkskin belt with jeans as they work perfectly with my holsters and are beautifully constructed as well as indestructible. Belts from "The Beltman" work equally as well and are available much quicker than Mllt Sparks.
