I'm trying to get information from people who actually purchased this type of insurance coverage. Doing an internet search I seem to find only sales pitches disguised as self help, or information, articles. I know what my homeowner insurance covers and wonder if the concealed carry policies are any good. Thanks in advance for your replies.

There are several threads here on the topic. My local trainer/instructor recommends US Law Shield and the Armed Citizen Legal Defense Network has some well-respected backing in the firearms community.

Let the fireworks begin...and go Navy! :)

I've spent quite a bit of my own personal time researching a handful of these offerings. (I've belonged to more than one over the past few years.)

This is the one I have invested my own money in most recently, (at the end of another's contract), following hours of online research and interaction with their representatives:

CCW Safe

The fine print.

CCW is one I have been considering, along with USCCA and US Law Shield.

May I ask why you switched?

Of course you may, that's why we're here.

I switched because they offered, imho, the most comprehensive combination of coverage, (criminal, civil, trial and judgments), at reasonable cost; had the fewest gotchas and weasel-worded exclusions; the leadership is professional, (former police and current attorneys), has a well thought out program which has actually been used to successfully represent a member at trial on a murder charge, and based upon extensive correspondence I have had with the COO who has come across as a no b.s., squared away former police officer with strong core values.

In no way do I mean any of this to reflect negatively on any other program or offering...but if I were shopping for coverage now, this is the one outfit I most highly recommend out of the available choices.

BTW, I have no financial relationship with CCW Safe and am not compensated in any way for endorsing them but for the satisfaction of supporting what I believe to be a good and reputable outfit populated by good folks.

Good luck and be safe no matter which way you decide to go.

I use ACLDN. For me, the reasons I like them include providing expert witnesses if needed and coverage for non-firearms related self defense situations (i.e., empty-hands, knife, improvised weapons, etc.).

Research what's available, and see which plans offer the features you want/need at a price you can afford.

Also, some people use two or more plans with complimentary features to improve their coverage.

I suggest you use the search function, if you haven't already, as this topic has been discussed many times in the past.

I did some checking. After getting info from you I also went with CCW Safe. Last month I was with my former Boss. He is a Retired Policeman, Detective, and now Mayor. The Service Derectior for the same City is also a Retired Policeman. I showed both of them the Policy. They both thought it was good and felt it was a good idea that I enrolled. Thanks again for your help. I’m not in a hurry to use CCW Safe and hope I never do but, I feel more comfortable now that I have it.

If you scroll to the bottom of this page you will see there are no less than five previous threads where this has been discussed. Read to your heart content.

I did my own research and decided to go with USCCA over 5 years ago.

I still have a year left on my multi-year ACLDN policy. They are a good outfit but as you know, don't cover civil liability.

For the record, CCW Safe covers all the areas I bolded in your quote above. In fact, the reason I chose CCW Safe was so that I no longer needed, as you mention, two policies to cover the various coverages I sought.

Honored to have been of assistance, my friend.

The only way to evaluate any insurance coverage is to make a claim. Still waiting on somebody to discuss his/her experiences here . . .

Good point!
Hopefully someone will respond.
Personally I’d rather spend money on guns, reloading supplies and..... Proper Training!!!

My wife and I have US Law Shield for several years now.

I like the no cap on civil or criminal. They also defend on AD and ND. Any weapons, asp, gun, knife, etc.

I have talked with Doug Richards on several occasions. He is the main lawyer for Colorado. Seems competent. He told me about an AD he defended. No one injured and no property damage. DA pursued it. $75,000 to defend it. My wife and I pay $120 each per year. I have homeowners insurance, car and motorcycle insurance. Why wouldn't you have some legal insurance if you have firearms or carry CCW. Frankly if I were a cop I would carry my own in this charged environment. Some of these jurisdictions fire the cop and throw them under the bus. Same reasons my three nephews have CCWs in addition to their department credentials.

I made the switch the other way. I started with CCW Safe because it looked better, then switched to ACLDN.

CCW Safe seems to have great coverage, but for me it was a unresolved membership issue that caused me to switch. I was a fully paid member, got the card and all, but somehow my membership record got dropped. When I tried to get it fixed, they didn’t seem very helpful.

It was probably a one-off/one-time issue, but I didn’t want to be on the phone debating if I was a member or not if I needed the service.

It's not there, or one of the 210,000 members of the forum would have responded during one of the multiple dozens of threads created to discuss this topic. All I have is anecdotal information from the providers themselves.

And that's why I keep asking the question/making the statement . . .

CCW Safe sends out Podcasts. They are a little boring at times but, they give (at least to me) reminders and info on how to avoid situations that you don’t want to get into. The few I have listened to so far also informed some of the correct things people have done and some of the wrong things. The last one explained what to do and how much to say if you have no choice but to use your weapon.
