I upgraded my older M&P to a new 2.0 compact that's optic ready and has the flat trigger. I noticed a lot of play in the front slide to frame area. But what concerns me the most is I had 3 FTF in the first 4 mags. Anyone else having issues? I usually don't have any failures with M&P's.

I think if this were a mechanical issue that you would have more than 3 misfires out of 60 (4 full magazines?). If it is the same ammo that works 100% in your other guns I would clean the new gun really well. If the problem persists after this a trip back to the factory may be in order.

My new M&P 10 seemed to have a pretty tight chamber when I hand cycled rounds through it. I hand cycled about 40 rounds through it and it seemed to loosen up a little. Maybe its the factory rust preventative in the barrel? Any way when I started shooting I've had 100% reliability so far.

Let's get the obvious out of the way. No offense is implied.

1) Was you 1.0 also a compact? If not, you could have a grip issue.

2) What ammo were you using?

3) Did you clean and lube before first shots?

4) When you say FTF, do you mean failure to fire, or failure to feed?

I don't worry about slide to frame play too much, even though I don't like it. After all, the barrel and the slide should move together. Barrel to slide play is another issue.

I just got M&P compact optic ready 3.6 barrel ran 150 rounds not one hic up and shot great.

The usual suspects are;

First ammunition.

Second magazines.

If your ammo is reliable in other 9mm's than it may be ok.

Mark your magazines to check if the problem is with just the same magazine.

What was the nature of the Failure-To-Feed?

Was it "nosedive jams"?
Was it "half-in, half-out jams"?
Was it "failure to go fully into battery"?

I find it difficult to believe that so many magazines could be faulty. If it's factory ammunition, I wouldn't believe that was the cause either. Add to that the slop between the frame and slide. My wild-@ss guess is that you are riding the slide. Try shooting one hand without limp-wristing and see what happens.

What I've found over the years is just shoot new 9mm guns with 124gr for a couple hundred rounds before using 115gr. It's saved me a lot of headaches at the range and made the new gun experience much more enjoyable.

My NIB 9mm M&P2.0 5" experienced several ftf's the first time at the range (about 100 rounds total). Took it home and thoroughly cleaned the rails - scrubbing hard to remove what internet research predicted was likely excess packing grease (cosmoline?) left at the factory. Viola. After that very thorough cleaning I never had another ftf, regardless the ammo.

I've owned the M&P 2.0 Compact 9MM, 4" for a few years and only one hiccup. Happened at LEOSA qualification a few years ago and it was a bad round that I quickly cleared.
