I know a lot of you got caught with low ammo supplies and hi cap magazines shortges when the run on all things gun got started. But there is a flip side to all this. Since 2008 I stocked up on ammo and some hi cap magazines and have made a nice profit on the sale of those items on gunbroker. Back in 08 I knew what happened at that time would happed again, so I invested time and money to prepare for the next time.

So here we are at next time, and I read the post of you who were caught short and remember I was you in 08. I hope you learn as I did their will always be a next time, and the next time may not just be gun related items,so pay attention, next time may be sooner then you think.

I am not crazy to keep the pantry and ammo locker stocked. The crazy part is trying to explain to my wife. She is set in her ways and must have went to the best school in the world because she knows everything.:D Larry

I've been a reloader for 30 years. I remember well the craziness of 94 and 08. So I've always kept plenty of loaded rounds and componets to make more on hand. I shoot a lot of .22 also and keep that well stocked.
Oddly enough, I was one of those folks who prepared for the possabilty of a 2012 disaster. I admit that I over did it some. I felt a bit foolish when nothing happened, but I don't feel that way anymore.

School had nothing to do with it, Larry. When a woman gets married part of the ritual gives them infinite wisdom and cuts a mans brain power by half. It's time you learned that! :D

I'm right there with Truck. Before I got married the 2nd time I had 14 years to build up a nice stock of "stuff". You know, basics, TP, paper towels, food stocks, frozen items, canned items, soaps and cleaners, extra propane tanks. These are everyday things you need and will use. I know frozen and canned foods have a life so you use them and replace them. Nothing wrong with having a good supply. Everything cost more next week and today. After 4 years she is beginning to see it my way and the inventory is increasing.

So are you especially pleased with and proud of your gouging activities, or just what?

I think I know what you are saying - and I absolutely agree with that part - but your post would have been more effective and to the point without the gouging reference.

"Excuses are like a+++++++, Everybody has one". Trained that "spray and pray"=inefficiency, I sold my black guns a long time ago, so I don't have a dog in this fight.
Honorable and legal are two different things. Making a markup and decent profit is one thing; banking on other people's misfortunes is something else.

I don't consider people who don't have enough ammo or hi cap magazines
to be misfortunate, only unprepared.

Gouger? No. Entrepreneur? Yes.

Like you the past couple of years I've been stocking up on magazines and ammunition. I'm slowly selling a bit of it, but mostly I did it to avoid a situation such as we are in now. I have enough ammunition to hold me over until prices return to sane levels and I don't know if there is such a thing as "too many magazines."

Fortune favors the bold and chance the prepared. Congrats to all those that have made themselves ready. Friends, wives, girlfriends, bosses, the law, nor anyone else is telling me what and how or why I do what I do to prep for "The Elite" and their pilfering the American system again and yet........Just saying. I'm not a criminal or an anarchist. But, I'll be damned if anyone will tell me I can't prepare myself for others stupidity. My line in the sand is drawn......Blessings to all.

You ever heard of irony? Sarcasm?
I think Mb was making a point . . . . there is really no such thing as gouging in a free market. Any of us could have done what he did. He used his money, took a financial risk, and now it is paying off. What he is doing is The American Way. It is indeed what makes America great. I have a bunch of ammo and reloading components. I could sell some and make a little money, and still have some left. I don't want to do that. I feel good having it all stored up.;) I would rather have the option to use it myself if I live long enough, sell some of it if times get really, really bad, or just let my heirs dispose of it and have a little extra cash.

I have little sympathy for those who cry foul, and complain about gouging. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone getting caught short after 2008. I don't golf, I don't fish, I don't buy a $6.00 cup of designer coffee every day, I don't go to movies over once every three years. I buy a few guns and some ammo. If I can accumulate a little shooting stuff on a teacher's salary (now retirement), most anybody can. When things settle down a little, start a plan to accumulate a little ammo. Remember, after things settle down in a couple of months, forget about ammo getting cheaper. The days of the $7.99 brick of .22s are long gone.

So, if there is a car crash out in the desert, say eastern Nevada. Your wife is injured and I drive along. Your cell phone battery is dead. I offer to loan you mine for $1000. OK, since you were not prepared (i.e forgot to charge your phone batter)?

I'm offering a service in exchange for value. You don't have to pay. It's what the market will/may allow?

I know a local gun shop that made a huge proffit gouging customers. I bought a $16 box of ammo for $28. (I peeled the new price tag off and saw the old price). Thanks to the internet word has gotten out about these people and their business will suffer. The gun stores that did not gouge customers will florish after this is over.
I have not had the need to buy magazines, ARs and ammunition lately. I do know that my Colt 1911 has gone up in price and is worth more used than I payed for it new.

Prepared

In the "Dressing Room" my wife has ~ 20 linear feet of clothes hanging in closets and clothes racks. This does not include 2 triple dressers and 2 chest of drawers.

What is wrong with my single stack of primer cases 5 feet high? :)

Scout motto: Be Prepared. Reloader's motto: Now go buy more!!

You had the battery anyway.
Using the phone will not cost you anything, unless the call is charged.
We're not talking about helping people.
We're talking about dealing commodities.

Why is it wrong for him to make a profit when he tied up serious money for YEARS??

I sold some gold in the early 2000's for $300-325 per ounce which was about spot. Should the guy who bought that gold sell it back to me for ......what? Maybe $500 per ounce? Seems fair. After all, he'd be making $175-200 per ounce! That is a 54% to 66% profit!!!!
What?
Huh?
Oh- I see people think spot is above 1600...........
Still, though..........shouldn't he sell it to ME for.......maybe a thou?

STRANGE................
we all moan about how things have changed.
Soooooo...... we all really DO believe Joe the Plumber needs "to spread that around a little" !!!!!!!

Class, can anyone tell me who said:
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"
?????
WHICH way do you want it?

BTW- I nave NO mags, ammo, or EBR's for sale!
