Hi,

Would someone please give me a quick education on how to determine a round butt from a square one. I hope this question is not as dumb as it sounds. Pictures would be great. If the term refers to the back strap, none appear square to me, all have some curve to them.
Thanks to all in advance.

The FAQ photos are spot on. In words - flared out at the bottom of the grip frame, square butt. Tapered inward, round butt.

Here you go.....

Square on left, round on right....
You may need to take your grips off to see for sure.

Some wood and rubber grips are made specifically to fit both but not all will fit both.

Some wood grip makers will make a round to square frame grips. The round to square are closer in size to the older square frame grips.

You can put standard square butt grips on a round butt frame too, but there will be an area on the bottom of the backstrap side of the grips that will be hollow where the round butt gripframe curves around, and back in.

Now that I know the differance!

Why some round and some square? Where the design engineers just in a silly mood??????????????
Thanks,
Mick

Well, some folks feel the round butts conceal better, while others feel the square butts fit their hand better.
When I got my m36 square butt they didn't have the aftermarket gadgets and grip aids to make the round butt fit my hand right. With all the grips available now, I think all the snubbies are round butt.
