Connecticut UPS Requires FFL to ship firearm

I tried to return a S&W semi-auto pistol today to S&W . I went to the UPS distribution site in Watertown, Ct and was told I needed a FFL to ship the firearm. I had researched the UPS site before I did this and had also spoken to S&W repair department, no one said that I needed a FFL to return a personal weapon for repair. Fedex was next door so I tried them, no issues and cheaper.

Only hubs ship from individuals to manufacturers (w/o FFL). I did ship by UPS as well as FedEx here in VA but had to drive like 30 miles to the hubs...

You will run in to situations like that.
Despite what they're printed rules may state, the clerk behind the counter or the Grand Poobah in charge of the place at the time you walk in may make a decision not to accept the package for shipment.

Sometimes waving a copy of their own rules in their face helps,,sometimes not,, as they don't understand the language of FFL, GCA, and all that anyway.

It's happened at UPS, FedEx and USPO at different times for me.
You just never know what to expect especially when there's an unfamiliar face behind the counter....

As far as I know, S&W uses FedEx exclusively.
I had no problems sending through them.

Shipped two hand guns this year one to S&W the other to Ruger.

The Ruger was shipped from the UPS Hub in Lynnfield MA, no problems at all.
The S&W shipped from Fed Ex Hub in East Boston, MA.

Both were returned to me by UPS and Fed Ex at my residence.

The last time I sent a handgun to S&W they stipulated I use FedEx. UPS could not find there behind with both hands.

UPS has always been like that its FFL01 or collector 03 to FFL01 or collector 03 only. But for handguns its ffl01 to ffl01 only.

Fedex will ship anything.
