When you change your 40c barrel to a 9mm barrel will a factory 9c barrel work or do you have to get like a special conversion barrel???
I have just purchase a new M&P 40c and would like to get a 9mm and 357sig barrel.

If you convert to 9MM from .40 cal you'll also need 9MM magazines. For conversion to .357sig you can use the ,40 cal mags. They're the same as .40 cal.

rgoodwin is correct. That's where I got mine, but it was before the current madness, so I don't know if Midway has them or not. The ful size barrel will not work in the compact, though, so be careful when you order.

My full sized 9mm barrel (factory) wouldn't work in my compact, because the barrel has a boss at the muzzle end, and the barrel itself is thinner. Maybe it will fire, but it doesn't fit.

I wouldn't think a FS barrel would fit a compact. Seems to me it should be longer but I'm a new to the Mp40c so I don't know.

Apparently, it does fit and fires just fine. As that guy's threading the FS barrel and using it. Yes, it's longer, but that's pretty much it.

Thanks Rgoodwin, I ordered a 9mm compact barrel from Midway for my .40 and it is supposed to arrive Monday.

The day before I read this thread I had gone into my LGS and asked the guy at the counter if he could order a barrel for me. He said he couldn't do that. Told me that barrels weren't restricted , and I could order it myself. I was admittedly being lazy, and was willing to give them the business and pay the $10 or so I thought they would charge to do the order, but I guess he (and you) did me a favor.

Glad to be of help! That's what we are all here for. Keep safe!

Before going out and buying 9mm mags, try using your 40 mags to feed the 9mm rounds. It should work fine, especially if you are doing the barrel swap for practice purposes. Many have used their 40 mags to feed 9mm cartridges, and had no problems. A few have said they have had problems feeding the last round in the magazine. If using the conversion for SD, then I would suggest buying the 9mm mags,

Bob

What about the ejector? Isn't it shaped differently in the 40c compared to the 9c. And what about the extractor?
These two parts are different for the two different calibers.
Are you not asking for problems?
Is it really as simple as getting a barrel and mags and you're good to go shooting 9mm outta your 40c?

I just ordered a s&w mp9c barrel from midway for my mp40c. Guess I will find out soon enough if it works. Will have to try the .40 mags with 9m as none are out there.
Will be glad when the mp357sig c barrel is available.

Shot my 40c with a 9 barrel yesterday just to see if I would have any problems and worked fine. Now I only shot one mag with about 10 in so that doesn't tell me if I would have problems later but gotta save the 9's for the shield :))

Factory barrel and u shouldnt have any problems. I've been shooting my .40 Shield converted to 9mm since last October and I havent had any problems.

I concur you will have zero problems with 9mmC/40C/.357C don't be concerned I've shot each one I have put enough down range can't remember how many and I feel safe enough to recommend the versatility and the fun. My stock MP is the Compact .357 Sig. Rowlette

Do a search on the forum.

Tens of thousands of rounds downrange and not a problem, unless you go for one of those high priced Storm conversion barrels. Stock barrels have been doing better.

The ejectors are the same part number between the 9c and 40c. The extractors are inconsequential even if they are different because as long as the claw wraps around the casing lip, it'll pull it out. (I can't tell if they're different because the parts list does not identify the extractor)

It will work just fine, I have put over 1000 rounds of 9mm through my 40c with just a factory barrel change. I wouldn't waste the money on 9mm mags either, my .40 mag's work fine. Good luck
