Hello,

I am thinking of acquiring a 3" talo edition 686 and was wondering if the sear removal is similar as some older N frames. I've converted a 625-4 and a 610-2 but not sure about a current day 686. Anyone know?

Thanks!

The newer ones aren't held in with a pin if memory serves me correctly so removal should be pretty simple.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Doesn't the S&W 686 Talo already have single action and double action ?

Yep, Same idea as your N frame. The newer guns don't have pinned sears, the sear just slides out. Be careful not to trash the sear spring while you're sliding the sear out...

Take note of this, because it means that you will have to "walk" the sear spring down into it's pocket in the hammer in order to free up the sear to slide out. The reason this has to be done is that both the sear and hammer are pocketed for the sear spring. Now, for "walking" that pesky spring down into the pocket, Ive found that two Exacto knives are perfect for doing this. Use the tips of the knives in an alternating fashion to compress the spring one coil at a time. Once you get to the very last coil slide the blade between the spring at the sear and the sear will slide right out.

"Convert 686 with internal lock to single action"

Why would you want to do this?

As I understand it you can ship or transport a revolver that isn't on the california "approved" list if it's single action only. So it's not uncommon for someone moving to california to use this as a way around those foolish laws.

I'm not sure in this case but it's usually done to get around the stupid laws in some areas...

You from Milwaukee tomcatt? I grew up there...

Winner winners!

We have 4 months left before that option is off the table so looking to get my have to haves now. :/

Thank you all very much for your input on the newer models.
