I have been a Glock guy since 1991 with the first gen G22 or I guess it was a gen 2, since there never was a gen 1. I shoot GSSF 2-3 times a year. I have owned a bunch of 17's over the years (my favorite). Selling and upgrading when a new gen comes out, after the bugs are fixed.
A month ago I had 4 Glocks. Two 17.4's, a 26.4 and a 19.5. The Gen 5 19 was my latest Glock purchase in October 2018.
I pretty much hated the Gen 5 19. I had not owned a 19 in a while. I wanted to try and carry it again, since the 26 was just as fat. Well I missed the finger groves. Without them I understood the "BLOCK" comments. The ambi-slide lock on the Gen5 looks horrible, like an afterthought but it also sticks out more then any other generation. With my high grip I would bump it while shooting, locking back the slide with rounds still in the mag. I had to adjust my grip, on all my glocks to make it work. The finish on the slide was super glossy and slippery. I had issues with sights as they changed them and gen 4 sights were hit or miss in terms of the right height or not. Vendors were confused as well.
I then tried out a M&P 2.0. Mistake. I had tried out the Gen1 M&P 9mm and really liked how they felt in my hand but the trigger really threw me off. Also at that time there was all kinds of issues with the M&P 9mm, accuracy, lock up etc. The Glocks I have had, have been stupid reliable. Anyhow the 2.0 felt so great in my hand and shot well. I shot it a bunch that day. The combination of that and my hate of the Gen 5 19, got the best of me. I sold the 19 and bought a 4.25inch and a Shield 2.0 both in 9mm on the same day. I wanted a single stack 9mm for CCW.
After shooting both a bunch. I have also sold my 26. I gave my son, a new Marine, one of my 17.4's. I am keeping my last 17.4 since I like shooting it and may want to continue some GSSF. My primary focus will be the M&P 2.0 series. I will probably get a 5inch to shoot in matches at my gun club. Right now I am trying out holsters and sights.
I am glad I waited until the 2.0 to jump in. I like them a lot. It is also nice to support a made in the USA product!
