Picked up this 1978 4" model 29-2 today for $800. Thinking that these are not the correct stocks. What should it be wearing?

Thanks I do like them. Maybe I'll just leave them on. They are dinged up a little bit, but are book matched.

Are the gold medallions correct? I notice the two other pictured grips have silver medallions. What say the grip experts?
Forgot to add, nice catch!

Keep the Smoothies

Many stock/grip makers will include medallions for a small additional fee, so they may or may not be S&W. Those smooth stocks look great, and I'll bet they'll be easier on your hands than the checkered stocks when shooting .44 magnum loads.

Could be a set of Culina stocks. I've got a smooth set of Padauk wood in the mail to me. Not sure if they mark them it's my first set from them.

Very nice looking gun and at a great price too! The grips look good, if it was sitting in blue velvet of a wood case that is the grips that it should be weraing. I do not own a pair of presentation grips on any of my guns but I would be very happy and leave them on if any came with them. As long as it's not wearing rubber then I would not change them. I am looking forward to a range report because I am sure that gun shoots as good as it looks. Enjoy!

Those aren't from John and Jennifer. The shape of them isn't right. But they are some really nice looking stocks. I wouldn't mind having a set like that myself. Compare them to my square butt Kingwood set on my 27-2 and you will see they aren't shaped quite the same, especially at the bottom of the stock.
