Without extremely good ventilation the lead fumes will be a problem. not only are the harmful you you, the lead will get all over your walls and carpet and continue to be a hazard.

The idea of using a backyard of a friend is a good one. It's much better to do that work outside but be careful to do it on a nice day. Rain is a problem because if any water drops into the lead, well, lets say it gets very interesting.
