Couln't order a new 642

I went to my local gun shop, where I have bought several guns in the past that they ordered for me. When I asked today about a price and ordering a 642CT without internal hammer, they quoted me $610, which is about 10% off the S&W list price. But when they tried to order it from their distributor, they were told that they have no idea how long it will be before S&W catches up on orders, and it is likely so long that they will not take advance orders. This is the first time I have ever encountered not being able to order a new gun and I am a bit disappointed. I have my 640, but I was looking forward to getting the lighter gun for pocket carry.

My LGS said the same thing about two weeks ago. He had a few S&Ws on order, but no eta. I stopped in on a whim last week right as they were checking in 2 642s. One never made it to the case.
Moral of the story, keep checking around.

I have been looking for a 686 with 4 inch barrel in my area for 5 months now. Have one ordered with lgs and was told last week it might be here 5 July. While waiting for the 686 I found this 642 pro series and bought it just to have it. It is my first of hopefully many s&w revolvers.

That sucks. I've been trying to find a 643 no lock but the only one I've seen is a LGS wanting $500 for it. No thanks.

You ordered a 642CT WITHOUT an internal hammer? Do they charge extra for one less part than a 642 WITH an internal hammer? I see you live in Illinois. Perhaps the Rahm Emanuel Commemorative Model? Or maybe a new child-proof or accident proof model.
