Well, I use High Noon Holsters now. Have got out of all my cowhide Galco holsters and gone to horsehide. They are lighter as they are only a single layer. They are a finer grain so the dirt doesn't get into the larger pours of the cowhide. Flexible so they are comfortable. The trick is to find someone who actually uses quality horsehide ~ as High Noon does. I have some other "horsehide" holsters that are or questionable quality. You get what you pay for in leather. May as well get the best ONCE. All horsehide holsters should carry an extra charge due to cost & difficulty working with horsehide.

Have a Galco horsehide pocket holster for my sHield .40 and prefer it to destantis Nemisis because it is lighter and thinner than most everything except kydex.

I believe the only way you can get horse hide from Desantis is through their custom shop. If you purchased a holster made of horse hide, it should have been noted as such to justify the up-charge. You usually pay an extra $15-20 or so for the horse.

I currently use a Cross Breed, horse. I love it. Has held up much better than cow hides I have tried. I have not tried many though, so I am far from an "expert"

Horsehide IS worth the money. It does not strech like cowhide does over the years and is thinner.

I have Kramer holsters in both. The Horsehide is much thinner and durable. Comfort is slightly better because of the thinner leather.

I recommend the Crossbreed Super tuck! I bought the cow hide because its black and blinds perfectly to my pistol and dark clothing.

From years of carry experience, I would choose horse over cow any day. The extra $$$ for horse hide is well worth it. Bill

I've got a Kramer horse IWB. It was used when I got it, I've used it for 2 years, and it still looks brand new. Very comfortable and durable. The price is worth it, the only problem I have noted is that since so few companies use it, the designs you can get in horsehide are limited.

If you have a real holster maker, they can do horsehide in black. I have 2 of them that way.

I make holsters all the time, and have used both cowhide and horse hide. Overall I'd say that cowhide is a bit easier to work with, but I unquestionably prefer gun leather made from horse hide. It is extremely durable, and makes a nice comfortable rig. Additionally the rough side is much smoother than that of cowhide. Many other makers say that black is the only color that dyes well on horse hide. Bull ****! I have done quite a number of rigs in brown, and they have all turned out awesome. Just gotta take time and care in the process. My daily carry rig is made of horse hide and ostrich leg. Been carrying it for a couple years every day!
