Crazy Idea - M&P15-22 Folding Stock

After watching some videos on youtube, the creative juices in my head started stirring and I was wondering, how feasible would it be to put a LR300 style Stock on the M&P15-22? As great as the MOE stock is, I think it would be a little cooler to have the Folding stock on it.

The plan is to chop down the polymer buffer tube enough to be able to fit the stock onto the rifle. The Airsoft LR300 stock would have a screw going through the middle of it, so maybe I could drill a hole right through the back of the receiver and screw the stock on using a nut.

Since the rifle doesn't need a receiver extension to operate, I'm wondering if this'll work. I know it's still legal as a rifle, however I wanted to get your guys' opinions on this plan.

i'd say doable, but when you cut is our stock solid or hollow? if its solid that wont be too hard to install at all...if hollow... gonna need to find a way to strap it on and not have it look like ****.

My stock is hollow. The way I was kinda thinking about doing it is shaving it just enough to fit the stock on there (Maybe a 3/4th buffer tube sorta thing?) and then Screwing it on. The stock has cutouts to prevent rotation so I'll see how I can get that to integrate

yeah. If your willing to take the plung i'd say cut the stock tube as far back as possible until you've found how your going to attach it. that way you can play with mounting ideas and once you have the best method re-cut closer and get it just right.

another huge thought.... is there room for this to even do a 180* fold? or at least 170 degrees. any less and it wont go into a case very well.

Yeah from what I see, the LR300 design allows the stock to be folded on the left side 180* but still have full access to the fire selector. However, the bolt release is a problem, but that's why Magpul came up with a BAD device right?

If you dont cut much off of your stock buffer tube I may be interested in buying whats left over from you for a project I am messing with.

Basically, I plan to cut the receiver extension about one inch from where it begins and installing the stock that-a-way. I'll be happy to sell off whatever I have left when im done

That sounds pretty good I think. Basically I would loose two inches off of the stock tube. 1in for the piece you cut off and 1in for the part that gets inserted into my pistol lower after its modified and epoxied in place on my SBR project.

Be carefull on drilling holes make sure they are smooth. Blend them smooth if possible. Polymer will act kinda like glass and follow cracks at stress points. Could go anywhere.

Dremel cutting tool to chop off the stock, drill bit it through the center, maybe some epoxy or something to keep the stock in place.

Inside the receiver, somehow bore out the polymer a bit to put in a retaining nut, and then all that together....seems simple enough.

I was thinking about doing it, but I think I might wait till I get a second 15-22. It's kinda risky and I dont want to screw up my only rifle for right now....poor college student and all

See if you can buy just the lower for the pistol. It has a nice square cutout for the sling QD stud mount.

Yes the pistol lowers may be the way to go. If you plan on bolting or screwing an adaptor in remember that you can't go in through the receiver bolt area. The plastic part of the bolt assembly banks on the flat of the lower adjacent to the buffer tube. Unless you counter sink the bolt or screw it will interfere with the bolt.

I thought of doing this a while back. Was going to make an adaptor that would fit in the buffer tubes place. Then make the opposite end fit the removed tube so I could put it back on. A folding stock would be cool.
