Same polymer throughout? (SBR project)

4.5" for the barrel. Generally accepted length to keep all bulk ammo subsonic. Going to cut the quadrail so that it's 4" longer than the barrel (meaning about 3" to remove), so that my suppressor sticks out ~1.5".

No issues with engraving the polymer as far as standards go. Has to meet the .003" depth requirement. Heck, I could do it with a dremel, but I'd like it to look a little better.

For now, I can go with the factory rail and not spend any money. Not to say I won't convert to an aftermarket product down the road. Also, this lets me specify barrel length and then cut the rail to the exact length I want. As opposed to the AR57 monolithic upper I'm doing at the same time, where the rail length is set and I just have to cut the barrel 4" shorter to that random (7.75") length.

I'm figuring the buffer tube is probably the same. Was curious about the quadrail.

What I'm after is basically the black version of the pic attached, but with factory rail.
Actually a 6" barrel will keep all HV bulk ammo subsonic. See the Ballistics By The Inch website.

Just found this thread. Very interesting. Been shooting my 15-22 w/ the stock collapsed all the way down. Get better results in general when shooting. As pictured in the preceding post, this rifle would be most interesting and useful. As I am not a gifted machinist, this is a project that I will not likely undertake. But, more power to those who have the skills and are able to handle the legal steps required!
The stock moves less and is more rigid when down at the shortest position. What I did was modify the plastic buffer tube with a notch so I could mount the Magpul Fixed Carbine stock. It is by far the most rigid setup I have found, even better than the lockable Rogers/Safariland stock I tried. Plus you can put notches at various points so you can have other fully locked positions.

Where did you get the replica spectre
Found a guy on eBay that made fake cans to the length and bore I wanted. If interested, let me know and I'll find his info.

There's a lot of people with real world experience that would say different. 5" and under will do it. The 5"-6.5" range often gives you transonic.

Even with my 4.5", you can tell a difference in standard 22 and subsonic 22. Here are a couple quick videos I took today now that my suppressor is here.

one mag of standard 22LR through 4.5" 15-22 SBR and Spectre II

one mag of GemTech subsonic 22LR through 4.5" 15-22 SBR and Spectre II

DISCLAIMER: all videos shot with my "mil-spec" iPotato, with the phone sitting propped against the Spectre II pouch on the shelf of the bay at the indoor range.

Man that is sweet. I need to get one and cut it up....and jump through all the legal hoops ;)

Just do it!!

Get a trust if you don't already have one, eFile it, and in a month or so you can chop the barrel. :D

In the meantime, get a suppressor in route!!

Got back to the range today and shot a couple more videos. Also trying out the YouTube Capture app so I can splice videos together to give a better idea back-to-back of unsuppressed and suppressed.

The disclaimers:
1. Range has multiple "no photography" signs around, so I just discretely laid my iPhone on the shooting bench.
2. Audio and video quality are compliments of Apple

Anyway...here you go...first the M&P 15-22:

S&W 15-22 SBR with and without Spectre II - YouTube

And then the M&P 22:

Interesting. I have read that folks say the Spectre II does not have a first round pop, but you can certainly hear it on the 15-22... plus can see the flash.

Yes, I found that odd as well. First time it's ever happened on the SBR or the pistol. Not sure what the cause was.

Hello,
Awesome job on the barrel bob. If you don't mind I have a few questions: what is the web site address for the folks who did the barrel chop for you?
What did it cost and how long did it take for turn around?
How long did the Form 1 process take start to finish?
Do you notice any decrease in reliability with the shorter barrel?

I have a Sparrow SS that I currently run on mine but I would love to SBR it .
Thanks in advance for your help!

Nice Job FRP--- Technical -->oxygen igniting with hot gases from first round. Solution- Water, spit, wire pulling lube, a shot of co2. Reality unless I am being a "Super Secret Squirrel", I have found that I can get get FRP or not depending on Temp, barometric pressure, dew point, host, barrel length and type brand of ammo used ( all over the place brand A no FRP today , tomorrow it will. ) I have tried multiple cans, multiple hosts on the same day , same time and the results are NOT statistically significant!! If you have to be absolutely quiet--> shhhh- you could go with a heavy subsonic round that does NOT cycle the action, with a can with large blast chamber, prob mono core vs baffles, shoot it full of lube, then blow it out, shoot the sub round, then follow up with standard rds OR just ignore it and shoot!! I do have various 308 loads that will or will not cycle the action, depending on my mood. Be Safe,

Barrel Threading Services from ADCO

It's the $65 option if you send them just the barrel. Ship it there at your cost, and I think the return shipping was $6 or so. I cut it down with a band saw to ~6" so I could keep the stub and save on shipping with a much smaller box. No extra charge for the Silencerco specs.

Form 1 was eFiled 12/24 and approved 5/19. They're now running about three weeks.

It's shot everything I've run through it so far.

I understand FRP. The monocore Sparrow is known for it on SBRs and handguns, and the Spectre is usually mentioned as much quieter on the first shot. I've never had the first round do that in the Spectre, in the M&P 22 or 15-22. That was bulk pack Blazer, so maybe it was more borderline hot than the other stuff I've tried. It was just a little surprising.

I have the anti-FRP supplies...just never needed them with this can.

Got my stamp in this am. Sent mine in on 5-22 and had to mail it, as efile was down at that time. I'm very pleased that it went thru so quick. From what I understand, efile for form 1 is back up. Gonna do one this morning for my 300 blackout, so I'll know in a bit.

Timing is perfect, as I pick up my $299 spare 15-22 at 8:00 this morning. Now I can send a barrel off for cutting.

Worried about first round pop or just want the quietest shot possible with your suppressor?

Try a single pump from a nasal mister with H2O. Cheap, fast and no mess. Last for a few rounds.

So for those of you that have efiled, does the completion seem lacking? I received an email confirming they took my credit card but when I resubmitted my password to file the report, I received nothing... no email or no popup saying form submitted. It just took me back to the home page.

I assume all is OK but sure would have liked some form of confirmation.

Log back into the Eform site and verify it went to the Submitted/In Process folder and is no longer in the Draft folder. You should get an email with the subject:

"eForms Application Submission Notification for Permit/Control No: xxxxx"

The first line of the email should be:

"This is to advise you that the status of your eForms submission with the subject Permit/Control number has
changed to SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS"

The most recent submission I made, I had the same issue as you. I paid, hit submit, entered my password. Got the payment email but not the submission notification email. Went back to my draft form, went to the "Certify" section, and had to hit submit again.

Thank you!!! That is exactly what happened... it was still in the draft section. I did as you suggested, edited the draft, went back to the certify section & hit submit again. This time it worked & I got the notification.

I hope you're ready to build the new one. The approvals are coming back in ~3 weeks these days.

From what I understand, with the direct impingement on an AR, cutting the barrel is not suggested. Seems to be issues of timing & getting the gas right. So I plan on ordering a pistol length (9") 300 blackout barrel soon as the form 1 comes back. Sure don't want that barrel anywhere near my AR prior to that, so I will be patient.

All depends on which length gas system you're running, and the current and desired barrel lengths.

Sometimes you can cut it down and open the gas port a little, sometimes it's best to start over.

I had a 16" 6.8 upper I wanted to cut down to ~12". The barrel maker does offer an 11.5" barrel that has the same length gas system. It was much cheaper for me to get mine cut down (and ADCO opens up the gas port at no extra charge if you're paying for a cut/crown/thread job) than buy a new barrel.

That's definitely not always an option, as I found out when I wanted to cut my 50 Beowulf down a couple inches.
