So, all this talk of a G19 sized M&P has got me digging a lot and I haven't had any luck, so I will document my journey here.

I will be putting a compact slide on the full size frame. It requires some Dremel use and a lot of balls but will be one of a kind when I'm done.

I'm also thinking of taking up to 3/8 off the grip and cutting a mag, but it fits my hand almost perfectly right now.

Do you guys know of anyone that has tried this? S&W says they haven't and their liability lawyers also say don't lol.

I can see shortening the front of the frame, but not the grip and especially not the mag.

Short slide on a standard frame might be a M&P SSV?

Jeez, lots of emotion here lol.

I have two compacts, the grip is too short, with the X-grip my big *** hands don't allow me to do a very efficient reload. The shield isn't even remotely similar to what I'm looking for so I don't know why that was an option lol.

Shortening the grip is a concealment thing, and there is no point in shortening a group if you still have a full length mag lol. I'm talking like 3/8" so one or two rounds.

I don't want a G19, hence the customization of my M&P. The 19 grip didn't fit me well and the M&P has a softer felt recoil. I'm glad you're perfectly happy with yours, and I'm also glad the whole world doesn't see things the way you do or we would never get innovation and new products lol.

I don't see the point. Length won't make a lick of difference in concealment, reloading difficulty is a training issue, and carrying a hacked up gun sounds like a legal headache if you ever have to use it.

Start with one of your compacts, beef up the grip with grip sleeves, play around with baseplate extensions if you want a hair more length, and get over yourself with the attitude that people thinking your idea is horrible are simply being "emotional".

Bkreutz, that's not my post... I'm making the proper sized gun for me.

MCE, actually length does make a difference, not in concealability but in comfort. The longer the slide the higher up I have to carry it so that it doesn't jam into my hip when I sit down. The reloading issue is not a "training issue", it's the fact that I have to lift my pinky and ring finger completely off of the grip sleeve to get it to drop free, which makes my firing grip inconsistent.

Also, I hate when people talk about exterior mods jamming you up in a court case. The only way that modifications should EVER be an issue is if it's illegal or it makes the gun dangerous, like a super light trigger where you shot rounds off target because the gun went off prematurely. I fail to see how a shortened grip or slide would be a liability...

Still sounds to me like you're making ridiculous plans around a situation where 12 rounds of ammo aren't enough, and yes, the reloading is a training issue.

So the only thing you don't like about the M&P9C is the grip is a tad too short? And you still think chopping a full size frame and somehow shortening a magazine is a better solution than just extending a baseplate?

I would probably never attempt to create my own hybrid, but I can see merit in a full grip and short slide. A short muzzle does clear the holster a little faster, offers quicker handling in close-quarters and in an ECQ scenario, offers better weapon retention. The full grip does make for a more secure and positive grip on the gun when drawing and firing and speed mag changes are much easier and faster.

Adding something like an X-grip is just not the same as having a full grip frame. Mag sleeves often don't fit very well, can move around and I personally don't fully trust them on a defense weapon. The X-grip on a Glock 17 mag will actually even cave in when a convulsive grip is taken on it. For reloads, they also don't drop free unless you adjust your grip and I would never use one on a spare magazine as they could move and stop the mag from seating fully. Pinky extensions have less problems IMO, but still can cause various issues, plus you still don't have the capacity of a full size magazine or the advantages of a true full grip. Training can mitigate the short grip issues to a degree, but can never fully resolve it.

Yep, I don't like that the grip is an entire inch too short. And yes, I plan for worst case rather than an optimum situation, but that's not what I don't like about the grip. I want a full firing grip without having to release it to change a mag, which is not a training issue, it's a preference.

Why are you talking about this like it's going to be some impossible project that ends up in a heaped pile of junk? All I have to do is cut 3/4" off the rail, a little Dremel work on the frame inside and then put them together. It is basically just making a 9mm version of the Compact 22.

This combination is very well balanced, and I have seen a LOT of people on forums demanding a G19 sized M&P so I'm not sure why this is going so poorly here... But I suppose I will take my project to a forum with people who are a little more open minded. Sheesh.

I wouldn't do this just because I am lazy, but a g19 sized m&p is interesting to me and I would love to see what it ends up looking like if you post the pictures. Good luck to you.

MPWarrior653,
Thank's for telling me why the M&P9c with the extended magazine won't work which you didn't state in your first post, hence my question.

If you are convinced it will give you what you want, I'm willing to come back periodically to follow your project. No need to get defensive, it's not illegal to modify your gun to your needs. If it's a safe modification, have at it.

Good luck and keep posting your progress.

I hear the part about dremeling insides and I interpret that to mean reducing structural integrity of a design. I'm sure it's completely safe until it isn't. Take pics of the project and a vid of it in action when you're done.

But I suppose I will take my project to a forum with people who are a little more open minded. Sheesh.

Or, you can go ahead and do that. You shouldn't be surprised that your attitude about this forum is garnering the type of responses you get.
