Hi due to the impossibility of my getting a 32 SWL die set due to price and avaialability down here, I asked a friend who has a lathe to make a substitute for me.Just the sizing and crimping dies.
I need a diameter for both, mainly the crimping die.
I know it will be not adjustable, but just give me a ballpark, as the factory cartridge crimping diameter.

Thanks Ray

32SWL isn't known for it's recoil, so bullet creep isn't an issue and I assume brass life is a concern if dies are that hard to get.
With that in mind, I'd suggest you just use your sizing die to straighten out the case-mouth flair you added to allow insertion of the bullet.
If you are just reloading for the one firearm, then sizing die size can easily be determined by measuring an unfired case or else cut the same taper and shave the end of the die until a sized case easily goes into your revolver's cylinder.

OK thanks but I only need to know the factory crimping diameter, since I do not have any commercial loaded round with me.The sizing question is solved, i just found a nut that sized my cases pretty well. They now chamber without issues.Since the sizing problem has been taken care of I must now know the approximate crimping diameter of a factory round to tell my friend.
I was guessing .320 will do what do you say?

Try Steelslaver, he is the resident guru on this, I would think.

I say I'm concerned that you don't have a complete grasp of what a crimp die is or does, but it could be a international terminology thing I suppose.
SAAMI spec for a round of .32SWL is .337" dia for the case and .3150" for the bullet.
The dies I have here measure:
sizing die .329" dia.
neck expander .3095" with tapers on the nose and shoulder to round and flare the case.
seater/crimp die: is a taper with a flared opening .341" shrinking to .335" over about .35", at which point it tapers to .306" over about .020"
Sorry about the blurry sketch, but the information is there at least.
My point in my first reply is with a sized and expanded case you almost certainly don't need the crimp, just the .341"-.335" taper to get the case to chamber.

Hello Ray

We take for granted how easy it is for us to get supplies here in the USA.

Your question lead me to take some measurements just to satisfy my own curiosity.

I only have .32 SW factory rounds and .32 SWL reloads but that is close enough.

The 32 SW measures 3.333" near the top of the case where the bullet fully sits.

The roll crimp measures 3.250" below the first bullet driving band.

The 32 SWL with a .313" hard cast bullet measures .335" across the top of the case where the bullet sits.

At the roll crimp below the first drive band it is .328".

Now I took one 32 SWL and added more roll crimp to see if it would reduce the diameter even more.. That one measures .322" and is way more crimp than needed.

Even this mild round probably benefits from a good roll crimp.

Sometimes, when using Unique powder I would get some unburned grains of powder.

I hope this helps in some small way.

I don't know the availability of 32 ACP dies, but I use them to load 32 S&W Short and Long also. I never tried anything to do with the H&R or Federal cases. You will need the correct shell holder of course.
