I found Pachmayer round butt grips that I think were the priginal grips for CS-1.

They are compact RB , with pachmayer medallions and a window on the bottom ( to see the serial number)

Does this sound right?

It is POSSIBLE they could have been used but not guaranteed. I have two lettered 3" CS-1's and both state they were shipped with Magnas.

I have seen these with the window cutout but no Pachmayr medallions. Also, some of the civilian overruns had wood Magna stocks. Perhaps someone here with a known original can comment.

FWIW my CS-1 came with RB compacs but no medallions,as far as I know they are origional to the gun.

I have NIB 3" and 4" overruns--both with unnumbered magnas. AFAIK, original Pachmayrs had no medallions.

Jim

I have a three inch CS-1 M2 with magnas in the box.

What is the overrun?

I have one now and previously owned another one as well. Both had magnas and I believe they were overruns.

I bought mine NIB in the gun shop in the late 80's or early 90's.

Is that an overrun?

The CS-1's were made to Custom Service specs. Some were also sold on the civilian marker. SOME of these were made after the C.S. contract was filled BUT at least one, one of mine, which is lettered to be sent to a sporting goods store, was made with the serial number before two others that I know of were sent to the C.S. Armory.

BUT...BUT...BUT...BUT. Don't forget that S&W serial numbers, as with their boxes, and paperwork, could have set for days, weeks, or months while other later numbered guns went out.

Remember ANYTHING is possible with S&W.

In this instance, there were US Customs Service issued guns, and the surplus guns from the contract were sold through commercial channels, so yes.

All of the issued CS-1s that I saw had the windowed grips with the medalions in place. This was both the round butt 3 inch that was issued to Agents and Air Interdiction Officers, and the 4 inch that was issued to Uniformed Inspectors.

The US Customs guns had the rubber grips, all of them that were shipped to Customs. The "over run" guns were all shipped with magna grips, although under "you never know dicta" some of the over runs may have shipped with the rubber, although the folks at S&W say not. I tend to believe that the public guns were all magna stocked as I have not known any other "sell to the public Smith" that was shipped with Pachys, Uncle Mikes yes, but not Pachy.
On the other hand................................
