CS45 Addition to my Addiction

Robertw

I have a CS45 purchased new back in the 1990s and a CS40 purchased used a few years ago online. Both are silver alloy frame with S/S slides. I'm getting into 1911's and tried to sell the CS40 for 500.00 at my local range and got no offers. I have 6 mags and a blue S&W plastic case. I'll not sell the CS45. By the way the mags for the 645/4506 work great with the CS45.:)

There will always be deals. I am sorry you have an emergency. I wish the best for your family.
Same thing usually happens to me. Hope all ends well.
TTSH, wishing you the best.
Thanks very much guys. :o All I can say at this point is that I'm damn lucky I didn't buy any new acquisitions this past month because I'd be trying to sell them now to raise cash. :( This is the second time in 4 months that I've been hit with a surprise financially-crushing family crisis... and that's not the half of what transpired today. This time makes last time look like child's play in comparison. :(

But as the Terminator said, "I'll be back"! :) What doesn't kill us makes us stronger! :D Isn't that what they say? ;)

Anybody here want to trade families for a while? :o

I can tell you that the stainless CS 45 is my carry gun, has been for many years. I bought it new, and of all the pistols I have had it is my favorite. I carry 3 extra loaded mags for it. I have found that the Federal 165 gr. Hydra Shok personal defense round works well for me, though it will feed most anything. It is a great easily hidden and powerful defense weapon.

A very nice condition stainless slide CS45 just popped up for sale near me, but I think the asking price is high for a gun with just one magazine and no box. :o They are asking $100 more than I paid for my pristine perfect LNIB CS9 at the same LGS. Shop blames the consignment owner for setting the price so high but says it is fair in light of rising prices generally and market demand for a small .45 ACP pistol. :(
With financial challenges still bombarding me, I nonetheless decided to take a drive anyway and "visit" that stainless CS45 I had found last month. It was still there, indicating to me that the asking price was a bit too high for a quick sale just as I had thought. Also noticed the second time around and in better light that it isn't quite in the excellent shape that I had earlier thought. Either that or someone has been using it a whole lot in the last 3 weeks. :p It's still probably above average for a used aluminum-framed 3rd Gen... just not quite as nice as I had originally thought. :o Funny how second looks can seriously alter your first impressions. In my old age, I am finding that occurance a lot. ;)

Anyway, I managed to contain myself and not pull out the plastic, partly because my favorite salesman was pretty busy anyway and partly because I'm just not in a position to overpay even by a small amount at this time. :(

I found no other decent 3rd Gens during that scouting run, but I did find a Dan Wesson stainless steel .44 Magnum in very nice shape, but without a box, for $650. Awful pretty gun and something that I've always wanted. At $600 or less, I probably would have grimaced hard but taken it home. ;) The wife says she is willing to get it for me for my birthday. :o Trouble is, I don't think it will be there for sale at that price for very long. :o

I could go either way on this one. Money is very tight right now and I am holding back some waiting for my beloved 4506-1 to appear someday... but this CS45 is pretty nice and could finally complete my CS collection. However, at the asking price, it would become the single most expensive 3rd Gen in my entire collection.

What is a nice stainless CS45 worth with just one magazine and no box? I'd like some forum opinions on this since the GB results look like they are all over the place. :o

I paid $450 for mine. Happy as a pig in slop, too :)

Only thing they really needed was Night Sights...send the Slide to Trijicon
and they'll handle that for a small fee ;)

In today's market (It's no longer 2014!), I consider $450 to be a fair & reasonable price for a nice condition "used" CS45... provided it comes with at least 2 magazines and its original box, papers, etc. By nice condition, I mean no nasty anodized aluminum frame wear or damage and no deep, unfixable scratches on the stainless steel slide. :o That's my visual criteria anyway. I know other folks here think differently, especially regarding the original box thang. :p

I'd love to snag one for $400 but I know that ain't going to happen. ;)

I also realize that some nice examples are going for more than $500. Sometimes a whole lot more. :o

I don't think that a 457 is that much less concealable, is easier to find parts and magazines for, and the longer barrel might improve accuracy. Not to mention that they are more plentiful and likely less expensive.

Plentiful is of course a relative term, but that's because of the state in which we live. Which subject has been beat to death, including earlier today. ;)

Well, there's where that difference between your blued preference and my SS preference comes into play. :) I would practically kill for a 457S... :D ... but a blued 457 or a two-tone 457 just doesn't do it for me. :o I see that the reverse two-tone 457 in Worcester finally sold... no big loss as far as I am concerned. :)

Anyway, yes there are 457's around. And yes, they make a lot of sense, especially when directly compared to the CS45. But my lust is for SS 3rd Gens. :D Try to find a 457S! :p Not too many around from what I can see. :)

Can you PM me with the name of the shop in Worcester? Not that I'm out there all that much, but I like to look on line and if I see something worth while, I'll at least make a phone call.

Per a recent post of mine, I took a "grand tour" of gun shops just very recently and found nothing of interest to us 3rd Gen'r's in the greater Worcester area except for that CS45 I've been discussing herein. :o Anyway, PM incoming... :)
