If your'e hurting for something that goes bang these days and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, consider foreign milsurp:

Bolt rifles can still be had for under $200 or even $150. Get something in a slightly arcane round and there's tons of foreign surplus ammo still available on the cheap. Granted, most is corrosive, but it's not hard to clean with soap & hot water.

Pistols are a different story. Even the Nagant revolvers and ammo are getting hard to find, but I'm sure something can be still found. You want to buy direct from the importer. Once it's on GA or GB, it's probably too late.

There's plenty of 30-06 on the shelves these days (but it may not be cheap).

I have a Swedish Mauser, 6.5x55 not cheap to shoot unless you reload
real sweet with irons and if ya practice it will reach out some ways?

Oh and an older single shot 22LR, Try hitting a shotgun shell at 50 yds with irons or a ritz cracker at 100 with a scope. (If the birds do not get it first!)

Mosin Nagant M38 or M44 or M91/30 = $80-$120

880 rounds = $190 shipped from sportsmanguide

problem solved, and now you have a great deer rifle too.

Bingo. Or a Yugo mauser for 200-250 +
https://samcoglobal.com/Ammo-8mm.html. Heck, there's even Carl Gustav/Husqvarna sporters available around that price range.

The post was for non-reloaders. Most of my guns have never fired a factory load. I just got my first Nagant. Except for the Serbian PRVI, brass costs several times more than Mil Surp ammo. Loaded PRVI is still very reasonable.

I've been shooting my muzzleloaders more. A bit messy but fun and cheap to shoot. I have a good supply of powder flint and caps for the percussion guns, cast my own for bullets so no supply problem here. I haven't seen any shortage of muzzleloading supplies yet anyway though.

I reload for my modern guns and I had a pretty good ammo stash built up before this craziness started so I can shoot the newer stuff if I want to. Just having more fun with the older stuff!

I think the days of cheap m38 or m44 are gone can't find a m38 but SOG has m44's for $259.95 only place I've seen them in a while can still find a few 91/30's tho good thing about them is if you can;t get ammo for them you could always use them to pole vault with.
k31's are getting hard to get now also

I had a great time in my back yard yesterday with a Daisey " Red Ryder " BB gun and some tin cans. We didn't put out anyone's eye and it was a lot of fun. Is there a shortage of BB's yet ?
gary

I can remember many moons ago when the first K-Mart opened in my town. It had rows and rows of Enfields and 7mm & 8mm Mausers for the outrageous prices of up to $49.

Oh, for the good old days.

Another option is an airgun:
Consdier the AirForce Condor, TalonP or Talon ss. They also make a CO2 adapter so you can shoot all day long with a tank.

I've been casting roundballs and shooting 3F or Triple7 (even had an old can of Pyrodex, I hate the stuff) in Ruger Old Armies. Those are a blast, casting roundballs is cheap if you have some lead, and the revolvers are equal to, or in many cases better than, a lot of big bore centerfires for accuracy. And FUN!

It's also a good time to get out the old Anschutz Match 54 and concentrate on some serious target shooting at smallbore silhouettes. Make every shot count.

Of course, I could always handload up a bunch of centerfire ammo too, but I'm being a little stingier with my components for the time being.

I like shooting my $79 91/30, cheap to shoot too. I think others in my area picked up on it too. Dunhams used to have several 880 round crates, used to.

Reload!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where are you going to find the fixins to reload and if you do are hou going to pay the prices asked. You know dies and presses are in short supply. The shelves are empty. Bare save for the dust bunnies.

Shooting the berdan primed military surplus ammo is awesome we just walk away and not have to reload it. You can get a mosin nagant for $100 + or -. Plus the surplus ammo is still cheap too.

You say the mosins aren't accurate? Go to you tube and search for "hog hunting best shot ever" they used a mosin nagant.
