Curse me for not having my camera!

I have not eaten Spam or Corned Beef Hash in many years. My mom used to fry it till crispy and serve with a side of Mac n cheese. The Hash was placed in a circle in the pan with the middle open like a doughnut. Crack an egg drop in the center cover and serve on toast or English Muffin when the egg was still soft in the center.

Both were staples when camping. They certainly beat the oatmeal other guys were eating. Easy to pack and wouldn't go bad or get all funky like Bacon.

I might just buy some and eat it to stroll down memory lane. I loved it.

Way back in 2020 when they were talking about locking down the country, I headed to Costco to lay in supplies.

I bought enough Spam, canned chicken, canned tuna, and rice to last at least three months. Plus canned veggies, bread flour, and toilet paper.

I think that I'll be working my way through those supplies for the next decade. The chicken and tuna went quickly but my daughter doesn't like Spam so that is languishing on the shelf.

We didn’t have refrigeration on the ranch when I was a kid. We ate enough spam, vienna sausages, pork and beans, canned chili etc. to the point I dang near gag at the thought of them.
I can manage corn beef hash if it’s red with ketchup.
... and you lived to tell the tale :)

I have a ‘camera’ - iPhone with me at all times.
At Walmart I try not pay too much attention to the other clientele!
But that much Spam would hard to ignore.
I prefer cuter stuff like 2 dogs in a Sidecar.

Awww man. When I was a kid Spam was a treat and not the brand name. Eskay bologna was the staple. When we got to step up, we had Span. Fried and plain. With mac and cheese, and Poke and beans...Peggy Phillips brand. I don't know if Peggy Phillips brand is still around...probably a local thing.

I still love Spam. Hamburger Helper too...with hamburger or ground turkey.

And Rice a Roni...toss in a can of chicken or beef and it's even better.

Potted Meat? Vienna Sausages? Oh yea...as long as it's Armour brand. The others aren't fit for dogs you don't like IMHO. But Armour is good to go. I made many a meal on the front deck of a bass boat with a can of Armour Potted meat, and some plain white salltine crackers. Both would keep pretty well in a Tupperware box in the rod locker.

SPAM stock sky-rockets

SPAM--A mystery
I know! Pig skins and rat tails
in K-Y Jelly.

Pink fat in a can
Cholesterol for my heart
Have I a death wish?

What would a thread about Spam be without a couple of haikus?

I love the stuff, fried crisp with toast and mustard.

Well....I remember eating spam. When my family was eating fish or oysters or turtle or almost as bad musrat/coon for the 2nd time that week .I'd get a can of spam out so I didn't have to eat the food of the creeks/marsh. Hated seafood and my father was a Chesapeake bay waterman. Otherwise I wouldn't have eaten spam as often as I did...I have used vienna sausages beanie weenies and them cheap hot dogs for coon/Coyote bait. Hell I didn't even know bout beenie weenies till one of my southern boy huntin parties broke out a batch of 'em in a goose hunting pit. Never had seen 'em. They were from North Carolina. They gave me a couple cans and next time I was down south I went to a Piggly Wiggly and got some...not really to eat ,you know! Bait for live trapping coons! Now one question...how do y'all make Corned Beef Hash??

I had a lot of Pacific Islander friends back in my college days so Spam, fried eggs and rice was often what was for breakfast. I still have that often.

It's on the breakfast menu at McDonalds in Hawaii.

I also love Span's current commercials and tag line, "Spam, don't knock it until you've fried it."

Here in Picksburgh we have a local sammich meat called "Chipped Ham" or at least that's what they called it when I was kid. Now it's called "Chipped Chopped Ham." Pressed ham shaved tissue paper thin.

What I find amusing is that people will gobble up chipped ham but rag on Spam but they are basically the same thing.

Fresh “ cat head biscuits” sliced open with a 1/4” thick piece of fried spam with spicy mustard is a great flea market breakfast. Used to get that or a biscuit with fresh slice fried bologna, man , makes me hungry.
BTW, the woman with the shopping cart full of eggs and spam surely didn't need any beer. Be a bio warfare event…..

When opening up a can of Spam and seeing the slimy mystery meat slide out, I get the dry heaves! That said, I wonder how many restaurants and deli's use it as way to spice other dishes up.

I ate Spam about 55 years ago when it was used to mix in with egg salad. At the time I had no idea what it was, but it did taste OK. After learning more about it, I don't think I could eat it now under normal circumstances, but again, if used as a mixing spice, one would probably not even know what they were eating!
