So I bought a new 870 express a few years ago then bought a separate 18 inch cylinder bore barrel to go with it, for home defense. I bought the express version that has the wood stocks, I really like the look of the wood on the express even though it's the lesser "budget version" of the 870. So recently I've been shopping for a magazine extension and I've settled on the Wilson combat +2 extension. Waiting for it to arrive later this week.

In the meantime I'll bet a number of you folks out there have done your own custom 870 builds in the past. If you care to share, I'd love to see them. Custom Mossbergs too, if you have them.

Here's a rebuild I did a few years ago.

Not an express model, but a special purpose. Tac-Star side saddle for slugs, Scattergun Technology ghost rings, Wilson +2 magazine, Jumbo head safety, Surefire forearm light, sling. It's served me as my personal patrol shotgun for 18 years. When I retire later this year the sling will come off and become my home defense shotgun.

This has been my home defense shotgun for ten years or so. 870 Express Magnum, slug barrel with rifle sights, butt stock shell carrier and sling:

The slug barrel is very accurate, at 50 yards shooting at a paper plate it will put three slugs together, all three touching.

This is it's new stable mate, just got it, an 870 Wingmaster, surplus police shotgun from Winston Salem, N.C. police department:

I added a GG&G follower, a Fortmanns left handed safety, a 20 inch barrel and a plus 3 mag extention. I also removed the crappy tacticool stock/foregrip and changed it back to factory furniture.

Hey, OP checking in here. I got home from work today and my new mag extension had been delivered. I wasted no time getting it installed. I chose the drill method to get rid of the dimples in the existing magazine tube. I took my time and the operation went real smooth. I'm quite pleased with the results.

Before I share my photos I'd like to thank those who've posted their custom pump guns. Real nice guns fellas! I've always been particularly envious of the surplus law enforcement guns. I wish I could come across one of those in my neck of the woods. But in the meantime this will have to do...here it is.

Unfortunately it's snowing here in Maine right now. Yes, a cruel April fools joke. If it's not too bad on Sunday I'll get out to the pit and do a good thorough function test. Now to start shopping for a shell carrier...

Thanks,
Mike

Came out nice. One to ride the river with for sure.

Mine is a gorgeous Wing master from the early 90's.
