Custom gun thread, post em’

My pre 27 .44 Special conversion.

Every time I see one of these conversions to 3.5" 44 Special, I think of Jelly Brice as an GMan in the 30s shooting at fleeing felons through the windshield of his car during pursuits. His was a chopped 3rd Model in 44 IIRC.

Know yours isn't a pre war but well done Sir nonetheless. :)

A couple of Customs:

586 with 7 shot titanium barrel. Arhends grips. The revolver is finished in QPQ, and of course is a 38 spl, to keep things legal in Mexico.

The other one is a Combat Commander, also finished in QPQ, Caliber is 380 acp.

These pictures are a bit old.

The commander has another grips . The Slide now has QPQ finish, and polished sides.

Nice thread, I live too close to Andy Horvath, it's dangerous. He built 3 custom .32's for me. A 6" K-22 returned as a 5" in .32 long. He retained the floating firing pin moved to the center fire position. A model 15 into a 5" .32 long PPC. A model 15 into a 3" full lug carry gun in .327.

Bought from a forum member a pre-war .38 M&P target converted to a pre-war .32 target with an original barrel. Converted somewhere in the late 40's or 50's. Nice & accurate also, sweet gun.

He also cut a 25-2 for me to 3 1/2" but I sold it.

Had a couple 6" PPC guns i bought in .38 spec cut to 5" by Andy. Recent build was a 4" PPC with a very heavy Protocol Design PPC Barrel built on a model 10-14 round butt. Originally a model 10 with a Bomar winged cover up rib. Larry

A Super Blackhawk and a 45 Colt stainless Blackhawk with Poly-Choke vented ribs.

I've acquired a considerable number of customized guns that I felt I had a specific need that they fulfilled. Of course, usually I didn't know I needed it until I saw it. Actually with the pictured gun I just read the advertisement and knew I needed it.

This is one of the Brazilian S&W Model 1917 revolvers. This is how I picked it up, except for the Tyler T-grip that I happened to have. I didn't have to reduce the stock of revolvers in their original configurations. There was a lot of corrosive ammunition back during then, so I like to think this was a restoration project that put a worn gun back into working order.

The original Jovino. :D

Thank you,
Unfortunately the gunsmith who did the work isn't working on Smiths anymore.
Suppose if a .44 Military wasn't available back then Jelly would have had something built similar to mine?

I traded into this CZ 97BD (45acp). It has the "E" conversion from Cajun Gun Works with the 1911 bushing conversion, and LPA rear sight. I added a S/S guide rod. In the right hands, it's as accurate as any custom 1911. I wish I was that good. The trigger is fantastic. It's the only CZ I own, and the only gun in my collection that has been modified from factory original condition.

Colt Combat Commander

1985 Colt Combat Commander 9mm. This pistol was a rescue from a backyard bubba who attempted to low mount a Millett rear sight and completely butchered the slide. I stepped in and had the slide welded and then had a Witchita sight professionally low mounted and some other custom touches done. This was all done in the late 80's.

Do have reason to believe that John Jovino did the work? Does anybody have any idea who did the work? I have no paperwork or provenance regarding who did the work. Whoever did the work did a fabulous job. Locks up like a bank vault and shoots like a dream.

Whoever did the conversion was talented. I've seen a few 1917 snubs, they seem to take well to it.

I doubt it is a Jovino, just commenting that was the kind of work they would do, but most likely before they turned out their masterpieces.

A gun I wouldn't mind owning in any event.

While not as pretty as the custom rifles others have posted....the top rifle in the 1st pic below & in the 2nd pic is my only custom firearm.

It's my deer/elk rifle that I had built several years ago. It's based on a Remington 700 action "blueprinted" and matched to a Bartlein barrel in 30.06. The trigger is a Timney set to break at 2.5 lbs. and the stock is a H-S Precision that I already had on another rifle. I don't handload but with Nosler Trophy Grade factory ammo with 180 grain Accubond bullets I can get consistent 0.65 inch groups when I do my part.

The bottom rifle in the 1st pic is not what I consider to be "custom" ..... it's also a Remington 700 in .243 caliber with a Timney trigger and H-S Precision stock.

Don
