Anybody know of any companies doing slide cuts/coloring which don't cost a ton? Everyone i'm seeing costs WAY more than the gun...

That's what "custom" is all about. Otherwise, everybody would have one. It has to be done by a gunsmith with the tools and equipment. The "coloring" alone is pretty pricey. We're not talking about a Bubba-File and can of spray paint. :D

Slide weight is one way gun designers control slide velocity. And as we learned in an earlier discussion on this forum, the thinner slide of the 1.0 M&P 9mm slide could stretch a tiny amount near the chamber when a round was fired, and it affected accuracy/precision.

This unexpected behavior didn't happen with the .40 and .45 slides, which were thicker in the part of the slide that stretched in 9mm gun. Randy Lee, an Apex expert who designed the 2.0 barrel for Apex, spoke of their studies using hi-speed digital images that helped them identify the performance anomalies.

A lot of the lightening cuts (or just pretty geometric designs) you can see on slides aren't likely to greatly affect gun performance, but I wonder if too much cutting done in the wrong place(s) could have negative effects that can't be anticipated?

I don't know. To me it's useless and I don't want it. They look like trailer queens in the car world. Just range queens or whatever. Don't know how well they'd function once they meet sand or mud.

But anyway, if companies like SAI and ZEV demand $2k+ for their products I cannot imagine it costing any accuracy in the long run. Especially since SAI gives a lifetime warranty.

I know that didn't really help the OP but like someone else said earlier, quality and custom cost money.

If I'd to do that I'd rather get a complete custom slide instead of cutting mine. That way you can always go back to factory. But that's just me.

Lol. I just said coloring not to specify anodizing, cerakote, etc. It sounds funny when you say it.

Primary machine
Best bang for the buck. Just had them mill my 2.0 45acp for a red dot . Only took 2 weeks with Xmas and new years in there. Very affordable, fit and finish are perfect, and they are great people to deal with.

I'll do ports, trigger jobs, mag wells or anything else you want done to the slide. There is a small handling fee though.
I'd like a scope and bipod too. I'll put my order in on the 32nd.

Bayonet adapters are tricky. I generally add $5 to that particular installation. I'm working on a custom chainsaw adapter for a friend. Should be pretty cool when finished.

Bipod on a handgun? Come on NewToGuns17, this is serious business here. We don't need any of your silliness added to this. Now if you want a monopod, I can hook you up.

What's your PayPal?

I'm looking forward to a chainsaw/mono pod combo with some Dremelrific slide mods.

Since this thread started my orders have gone up exponentially. So, I can do it, but it's about a year backlog right now. Even so, just send your slide in. I'll get to it eventually.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you hijack a thread. My apologies to the OP, but this has been fun.

^^^^^ LOL, and Roger that.

Regardless of the shenanigans, slide mods from a quality shop that will put a lil extra time and TLC into modifying your slide is the smart play. Avoid the quickie shops that do turn around in less than a week. Quality takes time and costs a lil more.

ATEi, DP Customworks, Mod 1 Firearms and Primary Machine should be your "go to"s ... unless you know a guy, like Rastoff.

My current turn around time is 37 minutes. In my defense the spinny thing on my chair is a little sticky so, turning around takes a little longer these days.

Wait...what were we talking about?

Beware of letting him do barrel ports. He did mine for $45 including shipping and had the barrel back in my hands in 5 days. Of course the ports look like they were done with a chisel and a BIG hammer. Can't imagine what slide work would look like.
