Customer Service

I did inspect it before the final payment. I had only seen 2 or 3 SSR's before, as they are incredibly rare around me. I put half down upfront, and once the gun was received by my LGS I did all the necessary paperwork. I knew it had a canted barrel, but decided to go ahead with it anyway. I did, after all, wait almost 5 months from the original order. I knew it would have to go back for the barrel, but thought it would be almost routine for S&W since it seems to be a growing problem. As far as any marks on the gun, there were none. The finish was flawless.

BIG mistake. if there was an obvious error with the firearm---canted barrel---- there would be NO way I would accept delivery
at that point You needed to point out he flaw to the LGS and have them deal with S&W.

Just bang it around a few times at the range and the scratches will blend right in. I should take my own advice about obsessing over small stuff- I'm the worst when it comes to this. I've got guns in gonna leave to my sons too, but I don't think they will be concerned whether or not it is showroom flawless. What is important to them is that it's Dad's old gun. If you spend any time with your son in the years to come at the range I guarantee you it will get scratched and dinged. I know it's aggravating, but instead of going back and forth with S&W why don't you at least be happy that the gun functions properly and focus you time towards that new son of yours. The time absolutely flies and before you know it your kids are grown men. Enjoy your family and just put this behind you. When you are lying there dying on your death bed, I don't think you will be reflecting on your scratched gun and your S&W custer service experience. Congrats on the new family!!

You need a wife like I have. If I want a gun.....she's all for it. Why?Cause I enjoy them and it's my hobby. She doesn't want to shoot them but she'll go with me and read or do something else. I love her and she loves me.......and my guns :)

That's exactly the way she is. In addition to the SSR she has bought me a Kimber Super Carry Pro and a Walther PPQ. Of course after said purchases, I was politely reminded that she wanted a necklace, earrings, etc. I'm very thankful that she supports my hobby!

Were you planning to put the gun in a museum? If not, just shoot the doggone thing and focus on stuff that really matter in life. Don't waste needless aggravation over it. Even if S&W scratched it, the sun will come up tomorrow. Think of all the time and energy you are wasting over a scratched gun. If it wasn't being sent to the NRA museum as a perfect example of an SSR then I suggest you just move on. It ain't healthy to obsess over stuff like this.

I dont like answers like this.. If the OP wanted a beat up old piece of junk, thats what he would have bought!
The poor guy ordered a NEW gun, and thats what it should be!
Maybe the OP should tell them he wants a new gun. You have nothing to lose?

I'm with you DB!!

Setting aside the canted barrel which I wouldn't have accepted delivery of,
The OP bought a new gun, not a banged up piece of ****. If the guy from post #16+22 wants to buy a new gun and bang it up, something's wrong with him!

And if he wants me to believe he'd do as he advises he's crazy to boot. It's easy to be flippant when it ain't your dough. Smith and Wesson wrecked the gun, they should man up and fix it with a side order of apology.

I'd call and make it clear the Supervisor and me are gonna have a heart to heart about this so called Customer Service. It befuddles me the gun could leave the factory with the canted barrel in the first place. Then after being tore up, they have the nerve to say the customer did that this own gun is ludicrous to anyone with half a brain.

I did take photos before I sent it in the first time. The problem is they were just generic pics of the entire gun. I tried to zoom in on the original pic in photoshop but it gets really grainy. My wife's friend is a professional photographer, and she tried to get pics of the damage. Even with her cameras, the spots wont show up in the photos. This may sound completely crazy, but I am considering keeping this one as my new 686 shooter, and ordering another SSR to occasionally shoot, as was the intention of the first. It's at least a good excuse to get another gun! Let's just see if the wife buys it!

OK...lemme get this straight.

They screw you over and you are going back for more?
Wow.

Maybe you can understand it better this way:

You buy a New Duramax Pick-up.
You bring it back to the dealer for an oil change.
You go get it back and it has a scratch over the whole driver door.

You smile and go on your way right?
After all, the sun will come up tomorrow.

I have always had a great experience with S&W CS. Sorry to hear your bad luck.

Call back on Tuesday. I'd bet money they will ultimately make this right by you. You talked to the wrong person.

I called on Friday because I just bought a 629 no dash(A 30+ year old used gun) that unlocked and rolled back a chamber on me with one of the brands of ammo I was using. It only happened on one of a hundred rounds.

The guy at S&W asked my problem and I asked if they had an upgrade cylinder stop spring I could buy. "You'll have to send us the gun, Sir"..."For a stop spring??!!". "Hang on, Sir." ..." Sir, I think our revolver 'smith is gone for the weekend. Tell you what, I'll just send you one free of charge. What's your address?"

I gave him the address and he said allow 7-10 ten days for it to arrive. THAT is good customer service by me!

I hope it was just the wrong person. I ended the conversation with you have my phone number and my email address. I want a call/email from your supervisor Tuesday morning. My fear now is that they will replace the screws, box it up, and send it back before I can get through to someone. Then I'll have to send it back for a third time, hopefully with arrangements of what will be fixed this time. I figure maybe by Christmas I'll have my gun fixed!

158grain, many years ago I ordered a winchester mod 70 from my lgs. When I finally got it, the holes for the sight mounting screws were drilled/tapped crooked, but after waiting several weeks for the rifle I accepted it that way. It didn't affect the function of the rifle but 20+ years later it still pisses me off!
Lesson learned; thoroughly inspect your firearm and be satisfied with it before you plunk down a wad of cash.
Cause if they didn't get it right the first time, they probably won't the 2nd or 3rd either.

There is NOTHING like a assembly line , fresh gun.. It is never the same after "work" is performed to it. :(
It is kind of like a new car that has been in an accident... never the same.

I may have finally gotten somewhere with S&W. I found an email address for their customer service manager and just got done typing her out a small book. Fingers crossed! Just in case that doesn't work, I went to my LGS yesterday and the owner will help me out if they ship it back without doing any repairs. He has a contact at S&W that has helped him with similar issues in the past. Side note, I bought an M&P Shield while I was there! :)
