Customized Model 65

I have a 65-2 with LPD stamped on it, wonder if it came from the same place? Mine still has that "well used" look, they sure do look good all dressed up.

I bet it did if the LPD is in the same place and looks like mine. Does it have a number stamped on it as well, like the 2199 on mine?

If memory serves, I bought mine from a police gun collector. (And he told me Lubbock PD. That must be what I am basing the Lubbock on.)

Really like the 65 series.

I have a 65-2 and it is the smoothest to shoot, and as accurate as I am.

I generally love honest holster/carry wear and cringe at the thought of refinishing or spiffing up honest workhorses like this.

Except this one. Excellent choices, it looks great and the gold inlay matches the excellent grips and polished stainless. You didn't succumb to the temptation to overdo it and ended up with an absolute beauty.

Beautiful gun. You can't beat a K frame. Another post mentioned model 65s an online dealer had for 449 and free shipping over weekend. I had it in my cart and then I see 13.99 handling fee and 1.99 process fee. Then add tax and a 30 bucks for ffl transfer and I was up to almost 550. Then I'd have to go put it on my permit 5 bucks and 9 for parking downtown. Figure in gas and I'm a lot closer to 600 than 500. I decided that was to much for a police trade in I couldn't inspect beforehand. Also another example of why I'll be leaving NY very soon.

IMHO, it's easy to overdo inlays and engraving on a basic service type revolver, but you sir, have hit a sweet spot that makes it look just right... not too much but, letting the World know it's your gun and you're proud of it. "Spendthrift"? Rather, I'd say money well invested. Well done, Onomea!

I like it! I won't be duplicating it with my 65-1 because it's still my "goin' someplace" gun. I got it with stupidly modified N-frame grips on it, put some Pachmayr Grippers on it, & found some Thai reproductions & a T-Grip to replace the rubbers.

Stunning!

This Model 65-1 dates back to the 1970s, and was originally a Lubbock Police Department gun. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of it as it looked when I first got it, but it had, as we say, a fair amount of honest wear.

I think the 4" M65 is a great all around gun. Everything you need and nothing you don't. Nothing fancy. About as utilitarian in its rugged simplicity as you can get.

So, back around 2008 or so, I decided it would be a fun, if spendthrift, project to spiff it up.

I had Dan Collins carve the elephant ivory grips for it. Dan Love put the inlaid gold bands on the cylinder and bbl, as well as the gold on the front sight ramp. I had yet another craftsman gold inlay the logo, the Made in USA, and the .357 Magnum bbl lettering, polish the gun, and further refine the fit of the grips to the frame.

Grant Cunningham, the well-known revolversmith, trainer and author, tuned the revolver with his super action job, and smoothed the trigger face, increased the firing pin protrusion, and removed, set back and reinstalled the barrel.

The holster is Mitch Rosen's 5JR.

No point to it all, other than it is beautiful, and that it is about as mechanically perfect as it is possible to make it. Some folks might say this project was a waste of money. An M65 as it comes from the factory is a fine revolver.

But... I had a good time with the process, and enjoy the end result.

Absolutely stunning in its simplicity!

Japan is in Oregon? who knew?!

It has LPD 35 in the same place as yours. I live in and bought it in PA. I know nothing about the person I got it from. The ser.# is 7D693xx

Mine isn't fancy. I bought a 3" model 65, the only thing I changed was removed the rear adjustable sight. Replaced with a black fixed sight. It came with black rubber grips, and black trigger, etc. I do not like adjustable sights on a combat gun.

Adjustable sights sounds like a 66. Nice guns, the 66.

Onomea, a very, very neat revolver! Arlo, since I saw your HD , you have become an expensive influence on me. Again, super neat revolver. All my very best my Friend, Joe.
