I just bought the Giessele sd3g FCG, and I'm thinking of skeletonizing it. By drilling holes thru triangler part. What do you think on the strength of the metal, or weight of the trigger might be affected. I'm only looking for a different look that's all, and I'm only shooting paper.

Keep oil on it and drill slow. Don't want to get it too hot.

As for strength, I would bet it would be weaker due to the amount of material you are removing.

I personally would not do it. But to each their own.

Good luck and post pics when you are done.

I would directly contact Geissele. I agree a cool look would be sweet on the best trigger made. I have ran 2 SSA-E triggers and cant say enough about them other then they are the best hands down.

i just called geissele and the girl told me to call back at 7.... i find that kinda late to be open... o well... lol.. if they say it shouldnt be all that bad, then im drilling... gonna do 3 holes, small on the bottom, big in the middle, medium on top.... definatly goin to post pics when done

You could have just bought the skeletonized version of the trigger in the first place.
Maybe they didn't tell you that it voids the warrenty if you do that but to each his own.

O ok, you know a link to where geissele makes a skeletonized version of any of their triggers? Lol.... Come on buddy... And yea common sense that will void the warranty when I'm drilling into their product, I'm just nervous to drill into $250 trigger to only mess it up.... Or to make it look like **** when I'm done...

Just got off the phone with geissele, and the tech kinda talked me out of it...... He was right by sayin overtime since I am taking away metal and support , she can start to bend n deform.. But on the other hand, I don't shoot a lot at all.... I think I got the rifle back in jan. or feb., and I just put about 1,000 rounds... If that... Thru her........ Ehhh I'm on the fence with it.

I think I'm gonna run it as is, for now. Then once I get bored again, I'm taking her to the drill press.... Anyways, what do you people think???????

Also, just from dry firing, like 10 pulls..... She's like butter... It's like a joke....lol...

I have owned 2 SSA-E triggers and im telling you it is by far the best investment I have ever made. You simply cant understand how good the geissele triggers are until you have used one.

why not stick to smaller holes at first? you can always open them up larger later on.

I just got back from the range, and all I can say is holy ...., Why haven't i done this mod first. A lighter trigger pull is night and day. I had to test it out before I start drilling, she works perfectly. Put about 350 rounds of the federal 555 bulk box., I had a bit of bolt catch sticking, I got the magpul BAD lever... But I even tried smacking it like a regular AR.... But that's another story,

Read my above post. People complain about a $200+ price tag. But until you use one you cant understand why it is truly worth the price.

I get home on Tuesday and am going to be doing this to a stock trigger when I get there. I'm like you, just want a custom look, but am gonna try out the stock one before I mess up the timney that's on it's way. If you don't need to do it right now I'll do some extensive testing on mine and let you know how it goes so you don't muff up yours. I know they're different, but I can at least see if it weakens it at all. Depending on the pull of yours (guessing around 3-4 lbs?) it would seem to me that a quality trigger should stand up to more than whatever amount of pull you got. Even at "half" strength. Or how else do they have like 8 pound pull triggers? I could be mistaken though, so anyone else that knows, let me know please

Just to let people know that geissele triggers are made with a inferior metal. I just tried to drill, and no success .... All I did was scratch the paint... Also for people sayin to them selfs " this guy don't have the right tools".... I'm a tradesman , a plumber to be exact, and I tried the usual ways to drill into metal, first get your center with a pin punch, then work your way up to a bigger bit, ........... I did this and could only scratch the paint with a 1/16 gold ferrous oxide bit..... Lmao....

I probably could get it if I would to get better bits, ok so a question to all smiths out there,..... What drill bits should I invest in?...

Try a 100* (* degree) HS drill at the slowest rpm that will draw shavings while using a light oil such as WD 40.....Use as little pressure as not to force the bit to stop if it bights too hard...............I supervised the drilling and machining of exotic materials while employed at Lockheed Martin.

May not be inferior metal. Might just be tough, like a 300 series stainless or 4140. Try cobalt drill short as you can get, TiCN coated and use tap magic. Thicker oil helps with heat disspersment. Use a constant feed. Low or unequal feeds will just cause the bit to rub, dulling the bit and work hardening the material. You can find 118 or 120 deg bits all over the place. I hope this is being done with at least a bench top drill press.

The feeds an speeds are going to be important, I would contact the maker to find out what materal it is and the hardness. Then look it up in the machinist bible.

Thanks guys for the quick replies, the bits I was using are 135 degree bits... And I also had the drill at a slow speed so she can cut into the metal and not over heat.... Also I would use cutting and threading oil Thats used for threading black pipe.

I think I'm gonna go pick up those TiCN bits... Another person told me about these.... Again thnk u guys for your knowledge and fast replys....

You can't drill through it......and that makes it inferior? Are you joking?
