I’m an easy mark when it comes to modified N frames. I traded for this one today, five screw Model of 1950 45 ACP, barrel cut to 4 1/4”. Action and mechanics are spot on. Looking forward to getting to the range with this one!

Interesting .45 you found there. Hope is turns out to be a good one. Are those Herrett Troopers it’s wearing? They are pretty. I always liked the feel of Troopers, I think. I get them mixed up with Shooting Stars. Whichever ones they are, I like the version with the closed backstrap. Good luck with the new sixgun. :)

Nice gun Tim, I think you'll like it at the range. I certainly enjoy this one that went to the John Jovino shop in NYC in 1955 as a 6.5 inch. Back to S&W in 1959 I suspect for the shorter barrel as it has a diamond in the ejector shroud but nothing turned up in S&W records confirming that. This one also has the toe clipped, for Fuzzy Farrant stocks I assume, but I don't have any of those. Enjoy yours.

I was wondering the same thing about the grips. I really like the ones with the enclosed backstrap also. I have a spare set of each frame size for using when I find a new gun.

I really like that gun. Seems lately a lot of modified 45 revolvers are showing up. Mostly for the shorter bbl.

Is that a King front sight base?

That is one heck of a cool .45 ACP. Match that with some good leather and you would have a great all around packing gun. It would be a fantastic small and medium game hunting gun!

Great looking revolver! Wish I had seen it first!

Here is a slightly newer, younger sibling, a Model 25-2, barrel cut to 4 1/4”, McGivern bead foresight, grip frame rounded.

235 grain cast bullets over hardball doses of powder make for wonderful loads.

Yes, grips are Herrett Troopers. They were in my grip box. It came to me with a worn pair of silver washer smooth targets.
No marks on the sight base, I think it’s factory. Here are a couple close up pictures. The front sight blade appears to be a ramp that was heavily filed into patridge shape.

That is one fine looking revolver you have there!
A good friend had a similarly modified model 25 decades ago. He sold it before I knew had it. Had I known, I would have made an offer to buy it.

I have a 1959 model 25 that received similar treatment. The work was very well done, plus the action was slicked up. Here in NM you can carry anything smaller than the caliber you qualify with in both semi and revolver. This 25 made me pretty popular with my buddies.
