last night on the news they announced that my county had been added to the list here in TN. seems a deer with CWD had been killed within 10 miles of our county in the county to the south. we had a couple of counties that border MS that were added two years ago and it has spread a lot faster than I thought. no corn piles or deer blocks this year and probably many more years. I hate this for all the avid deer hunters we have here. I shot my last one six years ago and when I had to have help dragging it out I decided that was it for me. lee

Our F&W Dept. is extremely cautious and proactive in preventing the spread of CWD here. It's in NY and Canada, so we have it close by. Only artificial lures are allowed, and they will absolutely bury you for life under the courthouse if you get caught feeding deer or putting anything out for them. Its also illegal to import deer meat from a state or province with CWD unless the meat is completely deboned, no bringing in whole animals. They are very concerned about it here, more so now that its been documented across our northern border.

It’s been 14 years since it was detected here in NY. It was discovered in a captive deer herd.
Luckily, only 2 wild deer tested positive (deer that were found just outside the fence near the captive herd).

The state DEC established a containment zone with mandatory testing of road killed deer and deer taken by hunters.
Thankfully, after several years and 10s of thousands of samples, no more case were discovered.
They are still very guarded about it, and established regulations about bringing in deer and deer parts from other states.

Yeah, that is true. But the docs tell me I should get by for a few more years so I won't worry too much about it.

My wife complains about my memory. I always tell her that my rememberer ain't so good anymore but my fergitter is getting better all the time.

The latest I found on the CWD problem in Tennessee includes 10 counties in west Tennessee. CWD positive includes Fayette and Hardeman, the core, and Tipton and Madison counties. High Risk counties are Shelby, McNairy, Chester, Haywood, Crockett, and Gibson counties. North Mississippi is also being watched very closely. Guess I will be doing a lot of fishing this fall, getting kinda hard getting around in the woods anyway.

Michigan has had CWD management zones for quite a few years now in certain parts of the state. My County was just added to a zone, although I’m not aware that any infected deer have been found in our county. So, baiting is now a no no.
