Hi Everybody-

I've been cruising the site for quite some time reading and educating myself as best I can, but have never posted. I'm curious to know if any of you have been able to shoot the cheaper bulk shells without any issues. I bought myself a new 15-22 about 4 months ago and per the owners manual, I have always used the recommended ammo. I usually shoot either the CCI mini mags or the federal american eagle. I've put approximately 600 rounds through the gun thus far. On average I have 1-2 failure to eject every 100 rounds. I went to the range today with my son, who shoots a ruger 10/22. We have always shot the remington 525 golden bullet value pack through the ruger. Out of curiosity, I loaded 5 of the remingtons into my 15-22 and rapid fired them with no problem. I then loaded a full clip of 25 and fired each of them without any issues. I then let my son shoot the better part of that box of 525 (I'm guessing he shot approximately 400 rounds) through my 15-22 and guess what? He had absolutely zero failure to fires or failure to eject. I understand S&W recommendation for the higher quality bullets, but for whatever reason, I have had more failure to ejects with mini-mags than we did with the rem golden bullets. Any others have good luck with the cheap bulk bullets?

Well, I'm down to the last few out of a box of Federal 550 from Walmart and its never missed a beat. Even shot some old Winchester wildcat and old CCI that's probably 20 years old and no problems whatsoever.

X2 on the federal 550. The 550's are getting harder to find, but I've never had any issues with any of the Federal .22lr or any of the CCI.

It seems like each 15-22 has it's own preference. Some run great on the fad bulk, some blazer, some only cci. I'd consider myself lucky if I were you. Mine doesn't like any of the bulk packs I've tried. I've got a pack of Winchester m-80's (I believe that's what they are) at home waiting to try, hoping they run well because all I've found that runs flawless is the cci tacticals which are quite a bit more spendy.

And just for the record for your benefit, technically you loaded a magazine or mag. I know it's mundane, but around here some people are more adamant about using correct terminology. I've seen far too many threads turn into heated discussion over it, so my best advice, get used to calling it a mag. Just trying to help. Anyway, congrats on the rifle, and welcome to the forum. Get to know the search function well, it's definitely your friend.

Mine eats everything as well... only issues I may have is becouse i have the Slide Fire on her and sometimes it get AHEAD of itself on fully Dumping a Mag.... But that has been my fault entirly not the Guns

Enjoy... I dump an entire box of Fed Bulk at every Range trip.... and have about 6k rds here at my house.... they are my preferred rd of choice

....

Personally I have the best luck in all my 22lr firearms with the cheapest ammo I can get locally (Blazer at under 3.5 cents a round). My 15-22 eats anything I put through it except CCI Stingers (stove pipes like crazy). That said I tried Golden bullets before I got the 15-22 and vowed never to waste my money on them again.

Each gun is an individual when it comes to what it likes to eat and thankfully for me it just happens to be the cheapest.

I wish I could run my slidefire with anything! Those cci tacs go quick with only 375 in a box. Not to mention I'm paying more for less rounds. So if I polished my feed ramp would it help? Or anything else I can do to help feeding reliability? And yes I load the mags right. I got lucky I guess because I didn't read the directions on how to load them, I know my mistake, but the first mag I just pulled the load assist all the way down like a noob but noticed the improper stagger so I started just pulling it down enough to get one round in and releasing it to set the round correctly. No hurt fingertips and a lesson learned- always read instructions. Especially with something with an explosive charge in it.

Welcome to the forum. Great bunch of people here.

My 15-22 will eat anything except lead bullets. They seem to get caught up on the ramp about once per mag load. Otherwise it is a fun gun and cheap to shoot.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to continue feeding the Rem golden bullet and consider myself lucky. The great thing is the rem bulk is dirt cheap compared to what I've been using thus far.

Welcome Aboard.

As for S&W's "recommendations", they are just that, recommendations. They are not cast-in-stone mandates. Using ammo from the not recommended list will have zero effect upon your firearm's warranty or anything else. If they work fine in your 15-22, enjoy.

I run nothing but Federal Classic bulk these days. Other ammos have resulted in some FTE, but not this bulk, so it's my standard.
