Hello. I read where someone recently had this issue and a good cleaning fixed it. I have a NIB 29-2 I just bought that is doing the same thing. Just two cylinders. I have completely disasembled cleaned and lubed the gun. Checked the yoke with the proper tool. There is no interference with the barrel/forcing cone. If you hold the hammer back slightly to release the cylinder bolt and spin the cylinder you can really feel the resistance on two cylinders. Any ideas?
Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the replies. Checked both. The extractor rod is straight and no burrs. I have Brownells crane alignment tool and it is straight. I do not believe this gun has been fired other than factory. I am going to try running some rounds through it to see if it loosens up.

check the cylinder notches. I had a Model 29 that was smooth except for one cylinder, which was burred from manufacturing and not smoothed out before final finish was applied. If you run a finger nail along the groove just before the cylinder notch you can feel it, if that is your problem.

Also, check the END of your ejector rod, where it goes into the barrel shroud.....some of the 1970's vintage Smiths had ejector rods bored off center where the center pin goes........the workers were paid by piece, so quality was not at its best..............the rod will mike true and straight on the outside - but the hole is bored off so the action would be rough or heavy for the side that is bored off and smooth for the side that is bored narrow - and it would effect more than one cylinder during the action cycling.

Good luck.

Looking at it very close it looks like it could be slightly off center. I will swap one from another gun and try it. Thanks.
