Does or has anyone on the forum carry a CZ82 in 9x18 Makarov? I recently obtained one and am quite impressed with it. Some suggest that the round is not adequate for CC/persona protection......seems like a good hollowpoint at a decent veolcity should work well.

Any of you fellow members reload for the Makarov? The only HP bullets I have found are Hornaday's....finally have some Unique to load with. Your input is welcomed!

I've got one of those, and it shoots great, very accurate. I don't reload though.
There is just no end to the caliber debate; if you hit with it, that sounds good to me.
When I first got it I thought the rifling had been worn smooth, then I found out it never had any.
I've found lots of cheap Soviet JHP rounds nice and cheap(Silver Bear and others); never had any kind of failure with those.

I bought two, gave one to my son after refinishing both.

Powerwise, the Mak falls between the .380 and 9mm Para. If you're confident carrying a .380, then the 9mm Mak should be adequate also. The issue is more in finding adequate SD ammo. Some use Hornady's Critical Carry, but some--not all--82s has a problem with feeding it. For it's size and weight, there are better SD choices out there, but I wouldn't hesitate to grab mine if push came to shove.

A local gunsmith told me my -82 would keyhole because the bore was worn out. I produced a target to prove him wrong. But one has to admit it looks like a smoothbore.

I reload lead 93-grain RNs for my -82, powered by HP-38. I've never had a hint of leading with that load. I haven't tried Unique though.

I usually carry my 3913, m36 and 1911 Commander as my CC guns....just thought that the 82 was an incredible value for the money.

Will get a box of the Hornady bullets and do some reloading and testing to see how they run.

I have 6-7 CZ's and they ALL shoot VERY well indeed....sort of my current production 3rd Gen S&W's....
