While visiting the parents last week, Dad handed down a couple more of his guns to me to distribute to my own kids.

One of those two was this pristine Model 10-6 Heavy. This was the first gun I fired, larger than a .22 caliber. I fell in love with this gun at first shot. I was pretty young and couldn't have known differently. I haven't had a chance to fire it in many years now but, I am looking forward to my next range day, with this and my Grandfather's pre-war 38/44 Outdoorsman.

This particular 10-6 Heavy, based on a quick search, was shipped in 1971 (which would be in line with my first memory of the gun). The finish is at least a 9.5/10. The stocks are original and never removed since the factory. It's about as perfect as I could imagine.

I don't have the original box and paperwork right now. We believe the box is in a closet in Dad's office. I will have to wait a while until I can dig around to find it.

I know it's not rare or even highly sought after but, it makes me smile and feel the excitement I felt as a very young child.

I think my kids will have to wait a little while for it. I want to get some enjoyment out of it first.

Definitely not rare, it is the opposite. But not sought after?! I am totally in love with these and I don't think I'll ever be done chasing them!

Looks fantastic!

Thanks. I have always thought is looked so good with the heavy barrel. Just like I did 50 years ago, I find myself staring at it every chance I get.

It's my understanding that Legendary Lawman & Gun fighter Jim Cirillo did some fine work with his. Congrats.

My 2 most prized possessions are my dads 10-5 and his old Winchester model 12. I was in complete awe of that revolver growing up. It’s why I’m a S&W lover today. Someday my son will be the proud owner of it.

My father passed along his model 10-5 to me last fathers day along with the box of ammo purchased with the gun. Half a box or so still left, gun is in perfect condition. Need to get out and shoot it.

Dad's gun!
You must be smiling big time. I'll suggest your dad has some pretty special memories of the two of you shooting that 10-6. His heart is smiling also.
Yeah, we had some fun times. My most fond memory with this gun was in being outside of the ghost town, Belmont NV, in the snowy desert. We had an epic shooting contest with old bottles, cans and wooden posts.

The 13 year old me beat dad on that go-around. Good times.

Last month, Dad handed it to me like I was receiving the crown jewels. It's more valuable, to me, than any crown.

I now have an entire display case of old guns my dad has passed down to me now.

Very nice! I would love to have one and in that condition. Many years ago I shot one in a fellow cop's back yard. I can't remember the distance but I think it was at least 15yds. I shot it at an old birdhouse hanging in a tree. I shot at the hole. When we walked up, I thought that I had missed it completely. Low and behold, I put all the rounds through the hole and out the back. I have never forgotten that gun. Now I want one!
