? damaged barrels from walmart ammo??

There is no such thing as you mention. It was Winchester White Box 115gr, REGARDLESS of where you may have purchased it.

I have a good friend, an excellent shooter and long time reloader, who told me in great detail with a straight face and wide eyes that WWB is "only made for WalMart, under a special contract". He further elaborated that a guy he knew knew a guy who had been to the special manufacturing section at Win. they had set up to make the stuff. All outdoors under temporary shelters, unskilled minimum wage workers making the stuff by hand. To hear him tell it I imagined central American undocumented workers each with a baby at her breast hammering away on Lee had loaders for pennies a day.
This is the same guy who, about a year and a half ago, bought THREE fairly run of the mill ARs at 1800-2400 dollars apiece and encouraged me to do the same because "in 3 months you won't be able to buy them anymore."

As said before, there is no WalMart ammo.

micocyco,

I have used the BrassMaxx "made in Italy" that comes in 50 round boxes with no issues whatsoever in multiple guns. It was the plastic can of 100 9mm from Bosnia that gave me issues.
The rounds were totally inconsistent. One would hardly get the bullet to the target, the next would sweep brass down the range. The range officer checked my ammo, asking if they were reloads. They were not something I will ever buy again.

My concern (the "at risk" comment) is that the rounds are not US spec, and the gun has been back and forth for some warranty issues. I'm not comfortable with some of the ammo I've seen from overseas.

Federal does package some ammo specifically for WalMart (the red boxes with a prefix of WM in the product number), but I was told it had to do with supply chain management, not ammo quality. I use both the 9 and 45, and have never had an issue in thousands of rounds fired.

A picture of the box would be nice. I have never seen any ammo in any container at WM that I have not seen elsewhere.
,
The 100 brassmax I shot was from the round container & I plan to buy more when I see them, they are not a lot cheeper but a dollar is a dollar & a dime is a dime.
What I would like to see at WM is a good deal on some
HP self-defense ammo & I would not care is it had GV on the box.
I like to shoot at least some of what I keep loaded for self-defense but that is hard to do when you are as economically challenged as I am :o
" at risk " There is an amount of risk to anything you do with a firearm.
I don't know anything about the minimal specs of ammo I would just assume it would be the same for all.
I did hear of a recall for some US made 22lr I have a while back.

Micocyco,

Federal box is identical design to others, just a darker shade of red. You won't see the difference unless you look for the product number. For example, the 9mm 100 round box is WM51991, printed in very small letters on the upper right corners of the box end.

WalMart does on occasion get 100 round boxes of Remington UMC in .45 JHP and .38Sp +P JHP, which I've purchased and used without issue (same boxes other big box stores sell for $20 - $30 more than the WM price). I've been told they get them in 9mm, but with the limits gone on centerfire, the first person in line buys them all.

I only bought the Bosnia BrassMaxx because they didn't have anything else that day. The made in Italy version works great, and I would buy it again. But when the Federal is the same price or less, I stay with it.

When I talk about standards, there are two major ones for ammo. A US industry standard, SAAMI, exists. European manufacturers use something along the lines of "CPI" or "CIP", still another standard. They are similar, but not the same. You could get into a mess with warranty work if you were using the European standard. Not saying you will, but the question has been asked of me along with the "were you shooting reloads?"

WWB in .223 at my friend milked after keyholes at 25 yards showed .221 Dia. projectiles.
Unconfirmed story at a local gun show said WWB was non mil spec rejects.
Any info would be a help if you know.
Yes I know .40 is not mil spec.
We will see.

Unconfirmed story at gun show. That says it all!

In all honesty it's possible some rejects got into the mix or just missed in QC. Happens when one makes millions and millions of rounds a year. Try some more or a different box.

-I run Federal Champion aluminum case ammo through my SD40VE. Wally World sells it for $14.97/box. I always run that or Blazer aluminum with absolutely ZERO issues. But now I picked up 250 rds from Freedom Munitions to have fun with.

I've always found that Sam's Choice ammo is refreshing and saves me some money versus national brands. :D

I've heard this too and for many years. Only problem is I have purchased The Federal Champion 9mm in the red box from both my LGS and Dick's Sporting Goods and both have the 'WM5199' for the 50 round pack or the 'WM51991' for the 100 round pack. I find it ridiculous that people believe the stupid things they hear about Walmart and the ammo or guns sold there. No gun maker or ammo maker would produce subpar products with their name on it and sell it to the public. The rumors get started by the gun stores because they flat out can not match Walmart's buying power. Then, people who can't think for themselves believe this and tell more people.

I know an older guy who WILL NOT buy any ammo or any gun from Walmart. Doesn't matter what the savings will be. He says it's not the same and won't listen to any different. Minds made up. Oh well, more for the rest of us. I'm really glad the Walmarts in my area have started back up selling guns. A few of them have totally redone their sporting goods departments and have a lot to offer. Walmart sells a ton of guns and ammo where I live.
Only time I go to the actual gun store is to buy a handgun. I look at the ammo but it just makes me sick to see how much more it is. And, it'll be advertised like it's 'on sale'. What a joke.

Sam's Choice?

That name doesn't ring a bell. Are you referring to Sam's Club, Walmart SuperCenter, or what. As far as I know Sam's Club doesn't sell ammo. There is a new one in our town, just across the highway from an existing supercenter.

Thanks-

I still love WM ammo , but I do have a confession to make I have stopped using Tulammo & BrassMax. This standard specs thing bit me right in the chamber. I got a Tula. rd. stuck in the chamber of my SD & had to get help getting it out ( still have a 8 boxes of it untouched. After that I looked at what I had left of a box of Brassmax by lining them up on a table & sure enough some were shorter. I finished those off in a range gun ( a glock rental ).
,
Now I am finding Fed. aluminum & don't care if it is made for WM or not.

The Sam's Choice is OK but I still prefer the Great value :)

That explains this guy at the range shooting his .22 Browning Buckmark with ammo he bought at Wal-Mart.

Go figure.....

I actually don't think the guy literally meant ammo purchased at Walmart. I know in my trade, (machinist), we will frequently refer to something cheap, and of obviously inferior quality as being " Walmart", regardless of the actual source.

I don't know, he seems pretty clear to me that he meant purchased AND branded ;)
Or has this occurred with any brands besides walmart ammo?
