Dan Wesson the grandson of D.B.wesson worked at S&W he left the company and set up dan wesson firearms .When did he leave S&W and what were the circumstances .Who was head of the company who owned it ?
Just for historic history. I bought a couple of the wesson guns roll marked Hi standard and am curious .Looking at the lock work i can see some engineering similar to present S&W also the tensioned 2 piece barrel arrangement

He left when Bangor Punta bought S&W. Late 60s. Founded Dan Wesson Arms in 1968.

Dan Wesson used the tensioned barrel long before S&W. If anything they copied it from his designs.

The Dan Wesson revolver was designed by Karl R. Lewis who also designed the Colt Mark III action and the Browning Lever Rifle.

The tensioned barrel on the DW revolvers is much different than the system used by the current S&W company.
