"Denver police have said Bishop was dancing at a nightclub in the early hours of June 2 when the gun fell from his waistband holster and hit the floor.

When he went to grab it, the gun went off and wounded a man who was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in good condition."

The gun went off? Gimme a break! From my viewing of the video, the gun worked exactly as it was designed to do: pull the trigger to the rear with your finger and one bullet will exit the barrel.

Several bad decisions followed by poor gun handling practices - sure - but that gun didn't just go off.

It was an unfortunate incident and I am truly sorry for the poor bystander that took a bullet in the leg. I will say however, that I am sad to hear that this poor 29 year old FBI agent will most likely lose his career over this. Yes he made a stupid mistake but having his life ruined over it is very sad. :(

I'm thrilled that he'll lose his career.
it will save his former coworkers a lot of mop up and increase their odds of reaching retirement

People that carry guns for a living should not do stupid things with guns.

The DEA agent, that said he was the only one qualified to handle a gun, and then shot himself. I surely hope he got fired.

The cop out on the west coast, who wished to quiet an unruly prisoner, and pulled her Glock instead of her TaSER, and killed him. Heck with losing her job. I hope she went to jail for a long long time.

This idjit deserves to lose his job, do time (like any NON LEO would) and lose a potfull of money in the civil suit.

“... was being held in a detention center in downtown Denver. He faces charges for second-degree assault but he has not been formally charged...”

That’s going to be interesting. I believe assault of whatever degree requires some sort of intent. I doubt anything beyond reckless endangerment would go anywhere here. But then I’m not a lawyer and have never played one on TV either ;)

Retired cop. Not a lawyer. Never lived in Colorado. This is based on the state of the law where and when I was a cop.

Intent to commit act A transfers to event B if it is "forseable" (logical and not freakish). Negligence in performing an act can also transfer to satisfy the requirement of intent.

So, if you negligently drop your gun, and negligently pull the trigger firing it, you would have satisfied the legal requirements to be charged with second degree assault.

IT APPEARS...

Actions DO HAVE consequences. I doubt he will be serving any time over it, a knockdown to a lesser plea deal??? Waiting for the other shoe to fall with a civil suit??? Will "the agency" (our tax dollars) pay for his lawyer??? Much to do with appearances, the FBI doesn't need (another) black eye about now. Stick a fork in the guy, he's done. I kinda feel sorry him. :( Anyone here NEVER do anything stupid, raise your hand.

There’s noting sad about taking rotten fruit out of the fridge.

Carrying a gun and especially carrying a badge comes with a zero-tolerance policy for stupid mistakes.

He’s lucky his career is all that will be lost.

There's 4 rules for firearms handling.

This guy picked up the gun with his booger hook on the bang stick.

I believe we all know better than that, it's just careless.

So, this maroon with a gun and a badge making life changing decisions for civilians... no thanks!

When my Kokomo buddy Carl was showing me his new Luger,
It went off. Probably because his finger was on the trigger.
The bullet hit his living room floor just between his feet and my feet.
But it was only a 9mm!

He should have strutted instead of doing a back flip.

Travolta as an FBI guy is not good casting anyway.

Bless his heart. He wanted to do well. He did not kill anybody. Some things are not meant to be.
