As chance would have it, I ventured into a Walmart today for the first time in 10 years or so.

Where do you shop you'd ask? We have a chain in Michigan called Meijer stores that are all like a super Walmart.

In any event, my hat is off to those of you that shop Walmart. All I can say is wow! I'm not a fancy person ,just an average guy and I felt strangely out of place in there.

To people passing out, to strangely dressed people to general chaos,it was quite the experience.

I did notice the ammo case was pretty full of everything except .22 and only one box of .223

Oh well, just musing.

Interesting notation. We moved from the communist North East to FL in late 2013. In RI, the Walmart was like a 3rd world country. I wouldn't let my wife go there alone. Here, we have a Super Walmart not more than 1-2 miles from the house and the closest BJ's was 30 miles, so we started going to the Walmart for bulk goods like paper toweling, toilet paper, etc.
I must say shopping there is an experience. Your right. We're just average people, but there are some strange people waking around there. Interestingly though, although I don't find the staff rude, they're not exactly bastions of personality either. They must take a test for that.
I would be careful buying anything I put into my body there(food, etc), but you can't beat their prices.

I like Mejier too. But walmart is closer.
2 things I get at walmart - oil changes (on my lunch break if not too busy) and ammo.
Everything else (groceries) I try to get someplace else, if possible.
Avoiding the front of the store checkout at our local walmart is my motto.

I haven't stepped a foot in a Wal mart store since my daughter lived in Hawaii, and that was over seven years ago! It seems at the time they were the closest game in town for what we wanted! ;) Have not been in one since and do not plan to do so!, not even for the comedy entertainment!

I don't like Wal-Mart and I don't like the Walton family; but I'm old and broke, the nearest super store is a lot closer than Meijer, and Meijer's prices are a little higher.

Generally I only buy clothing, ammo, and my annual combination fishing-hunting-trapping license at Wally World. Fish hooks and sinkers as needed.

Interesting observations. Haven't been in a Meijers since the mid 90's when I was working on a large construction project in central Michigan. The ones I was in were not Superstores, but I don't think Walmart had Superstores then either. Around where I live now I can go to 3 Walmarts within ~ 25 miles or so. One superstore, and 2 regular?
The superstore is near a large university and two Iowa towns. One of the other is near the university, other side of town, and the 3rd is in a typical Iowa town, county seat of a largely rural farm area.
All 3 reflect the same groups of people in the surrounding communities, some stranger than others, some nicer than others, some older, some younger. The stores near the university do have the typical university divergence in people, and heard there is some crime, car breakins, shouting, begging, etc. All have ammo, short on .22, all have just about anything a typical store of this type has, usually cheaper, and so far the store employees seem to be typical, some nice, some very nice and helpful, and some not so warm.
To end this lengthy store, nothing unusual, just reflections of the surrounding community! Nice to be in a rural Midwestern community, but the accent is on RURAL! ☺

I'm in Livonia Michigan & the 2 Walmart stores that were built here are now the 2 highest crime areas in the city with police presence there during their operating hours. The city would not let them be open 24 hours. You living in Roseville I'm sure you know what I mean.

Funny, I stopped in a walmart last week for the first time in years. I still don't see the point in shopping there, prices are not any cheaper than anywhere else and worse service.

Amen to that. We have two Walmart super centers in our town, and they never have any pistol ammo in stock. Only one time in the past year have I found any ammo I could use (I shoot 9mm, .22lr, .380, and .40), a single box of Remington .380 for the crummy price of $20. I was so surprised that I bought it anyway.

I'm always amazed when posters on various forums write about buying several bricks of .22lr, or a case of centerfire pistol ammo at Walmart at some rock-bottom price. Who are these people, and what Walmart universe do they live in? Not mine, that's for sure!

Went by a WM today that I don't like, more because of parking than anything. They had 10 boxes of Win 555 .22. My pistols don't like it, so I left it, but I was amazed that something put out at 8 am was still there at 5pm.

Our Meijer only seems to carry shotgun shells and maybe .223. I got to Walmart and there's 9mm, .40, .45acp and .45LC...

I go to the local Walmart fairly regularly. All kind of folks there for sure. But I see 2 of my doctors and their families there on a regular basis and some of the local news anchor men as well as the local weatherman and their families.

I live in a great community, 3 military bases nearby, lots of great people, newspaper last week said what little crime we do have is down dramatically from past years. Walmart is generally a microcosm of the surrounding communities. Go to Walmart in a crappy city or town guess you're going to see the residents of that crappy locale shopping there.

Ask the mom&pop stores the Waltons put out of business the've decimated some parts
ALL for the love of a dollar!

Yep. Capitalism is just such a terrible concept, ain't it.

And what a sorry, no-account family. Imagine the stupidity
of one of the richest people in the world throwing his life
away as an adventurer, flying a home built experimental
aircraft. That was after he distinguished himself as a Special
Forces medic, winning a Silver Star in Vietnam. After all, that's
just the third highest medal awarded for valor. Not too much
to that family. No sir.
