Does anyone know what his sidearm was?

I'm glad the other side of the story is starting to come out.

I only raised the question in relation to the stopping power, or lack of it, for a given caliber. And, the number of rounds e.g 5 or more.

If the powers to be object, by all means take this down!

Lostintheozone, thanks for the suggestion! (Really!)

Uh oh, now you've done it!

You've given a name to that previously anonymous officer!

Tsk tsk.

Regardless of caliber 3 or 4 to the arm isnt a fight stopper. 2 to the head regardless of caliber typically is.
Shot placement > caliber

I understand there are non interested witnesses that say the kid was walking back to auto in a threatening manner....I guess anything is possible...How do you judge if the cop felt his life was in danger after getting knocked in the face...How do you really tell...what is in a persons mind under stressful circumstances.......The news mentioned the number of deaths and shootings that have happened in Chicago since this started...Amazing number I knew they have a homicide problem but never imagined it was that bad.

OP asked a technical question entirely unrelated to the political and social issues in play; should be no problem with this thread staying open so long as we stay on topic.

I was impressed with his accuracy, I believe there were six hits. Most high-stress police shootings aren't that accurate. We also don't know how many shots were fired.

I heard one comment made by a newscaster (don't know what network) that said he didn't know if it was a semi-automatic or a .38. Those were his exact words. Dumb or what?

Basis of knowledge?

FWIW, everyone, the first answer is that all pistol rounds suck,
.

In an LE-world dominated by Glock and M&P, I'd like to be sure, also.
But yes, pistols are convenient, not powerful.

and the next answer is that anyone who goes to a predicted fight with a pistol instead of a rifle is a fool

.

I get tired of hearing this one. I don't know your intent in repeating this cliche', so please don't take offense at my comment/s. However, I doubt many of us want to see officers milling about their day with long-arms anymore than we want to see the OC-protest crowd doing so. We don't face the same daily internal problems the Israeli's do...thank God.

I don't care what color he was... or what color of the person shot... and do not know the circumstance of the shootin'....

But that officer ought to be suspended for poor marksmanship... couldn't hit a fella dead center, and the fella bein' as big as a barn less than 35' away. That force needs to spend less money on army toys... and more on ammo trainin'... and cameras.

EDIT: I take this back... seems like the news just came out that the officer suffered facial fractures and an "orbital blowout"... meaning that his eye-socket was broken. I've suffered that in a fight once... and it results in being temporarily cross-eyed.

How was this a predictable fight? A better answer is that anyone who goes to a predicted fight without backup is a fool. Unfortunately, when the **** goes down it often does down fast.
