After spending your time rubbin and a scrubbin...that could've been spent more fruitful you go to "try" and sell it for like $300 or so....you get the clowns with the..."would you take $200 for it".....LOL...it happens all the time...nobody wants to pay the asking price

It really all comes down to just how important 200 dollars is to you. To some it may be a good deal on a fair gun. To others a waste of money and to a different crowd just not good enough for their collection.

Looks to be a WWII era gun, perhaps a Victory model. Is it 38 S&W or 38 special? Serial number with any prefixes would help.

This M&P looked about like that when I bought it a few years ago for $350. I don't think it had been cleaned since the 20's. I thought the chrome was peeling from the cylinder and the barrel was so dirty you could hardly see the rifling. Mechanically it seemed it would be ok after a good cleaning so I bought it. It cleaned up beautifully and what I thought was chrome peeling wasn't. The barrrl cleaned up and looks almost like new and the action locks up great with no end shake.

So, if it's mechanically good and locks up properly with no end shake or obvious problems I'd be on that puppy.

The nickel refinish, possible mechanical issues, I don't love it.

For $199 I'd buy it.

It would really depend on what you want it for. If it's a good shooter it could always be adequate for home defense, fishing tackle box, or truck gun. Or if you want to tinker with it and learn somethings about gunsmithing, that one should be great to practice on.

Personally, I have more than enough guns like that. I'm with the crowd that says keep saving up for a nicer one. They do come up from time to time. If you haven't squandered all your money on finish-challenged shooters, you can get a much nicer one.

I can't make out any of the six digits on the butt, however the stocks (I think pre 1920) the extractor Knob (pre 1928).
I don't know my way around 38s ,,,serial numbers BUT.

The "top strap" of this MOST INTERESTING early K Frame is what's keeping ME up at night.
This frame is too early to have the square notch Rear sight.

The front sight is "pinned " to the barrel on THIS gun.

I'm curious about the rear sight!! Maybe a "broken TARGET!! ??

If I walked into that shop the pictures I would have posted here would have been taken in my gun room. There's always room for one more and some Flitz, Renaissance wax, and elbow grease would have that revolver standing tall.

However,,, I DO NOT see the 90 degree cut in the frame for the rear sight??
I'm not sure what the FIRST (rear sight) looks like ?? Where IT is attached to the top strap.

I see 6 digits on the butt AND i know they are UPSIDE DOWN and BACKWARDS. I think the 6 digits?? makes it a 3rd model?

The 3rd model Has a nickel plated extractor Knob, like this One, UNLIKE the earlier 2nd model. I'm (almost) willing to bet Two Benjamins $200 that the serial Number of /on those Stocks matches the BARREL ,, (w/pinned sight?) on this gun.

The grip screw looks PERFECT!! not one "nick or scratch" from being EVER? removed. Also the lines per inch in the wood.
A close look at the front lug and pin ,, doesn't look a refinish,; Yet to me. And I don't see nickel on the hammer or trigger. BUT I do believe I see "hints of color case,, blues.
Maybe wishful thinking

Fair enough.
But maybe I should "cover my tracks" on the dates of the stocks?
If I understand correctly,, I was wrong in my previous post (pre 1920).
These stocks are from?? (I don't know) 1930 1940 for Silver?

I'm anxious for More of those pesky details!!
