I just bought a antique case in the UK in a gunsmith shop, among others antique gun cases.

It's a venered wood, probably walnut. The lining seems very old.

It's fit perfectly my SW n°1.

Somebody ever see this kind of dealer case for a n°1 ?

English or US ?

I believe it is referred to as a French case or 'Frenched' case. Very nice case to highlight a very nice 1st Model, 2nd Issue revolver.

As said above, it's what collectors call a "French case style" as the gun is outlined in a fitted indentation. These are after market cases popular with British and European purchasers of the period. Cases are still made today in this style. England was a hot bed of copies of the S&W Model 1 in the 1860-70s so these cases often show up with those copies and sometimes with labels of the English makers in the inside of the lid. Ed.

Thanks to everybody.

Yes, it's "french fit" but this kind of fitting was used everywhere: France, UK, USA, ...

and a important number of SW n°1 were sold in France and UK too ...

I don't think it's US because the case is in walnut but ...

If someone has the same with a US origin, it could be possibly US too.

I don't think it's for a UK copy, it's fit perfectly.

I have in my "magic box" a original 19° century cleaning rod for 22, a period oiler and some cartridges.

Now it's a full case.

Your correct, it's not US. US dealer cases were seldom the French style, as the American market seemed to prefer the open space type cases. I have had a number of these French cases over the years with English dealer labels and a few with French dealer labels, as well as with no labels, and the guns were always a nice fit, so the cases were made with the shape of the S&W Model 1 in mind. Most period US dealer cases are walnut. Yes, you now have a very nice full case. Ed.

Translation: "I saw recently a box the same style on naturabuy with a provenance from England". I assume 'naturabuy' must be an auction place similar to eBay.

Hi Danalex:)

Naturabuy is the french Gunbrocker:

CHASSE PÊCHE : Annonces neuf et occasion, vente aux enchères

A lot of antiques, often very expensive for US guns (because importation fees and a good business for the dealers...)

but ... sometimes some bargains.

I recently buy a SW mold, first model with hook in 44 american for 200 € (220 $). I don't think it was very expensive.

Question

Do you have the name of the dealer in the UK?
Thanks
