I must thank Arik for coming up with this wonderfully subtle dig at one of the many accepted "facts" regarding firearms in another thread. It set me thinking so here are a few non-facts that many cling to, some of which are not about firearms. Feel free to contribute. ;)

1) 45 ACP should only be fired from a 1911 derived pistol.

2) 1911s should only be chambered in 45 ACP.

3) A vehicle without a frame can never be called a truck.

4) The Browning Hi Power is ergonomic perfection.

I'm that guy who can't see a sacred cow wanting to shoot it. I thought everybody knew by now.:rolleyes:
 
Gun mags years ago were FULL of these nuggets. Such as:

The S&W Model 57 in .41 Mag is stronger than the Model 58 fixed sight gun. Use only the .41 Police Load in the 58.

The Model 19 snub is no good because a 6" barreled .38 Spl Model 14 with handloads achieves higher MV.

Factory ammo of any persuasion, but especially in hunting rifle calibers, is inferior because it is inaccurate and handloads can turn up greater MV.

A military rifle conversion (usually a '98 Mauser or '03 Springfield) in a one-of-a-kind wildcat caliber is superior to ANY factory rifle.

Do not dream of using a Model 70 Winchester unless it is a pre-'64.

Lever actions in .30-30 are useless and should be supplanted by scope-sighted magnum rifles. Standard magnum loads such as the 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag are way inferior to their Weatherby equivalents. (A lot of hoohaw on rifles years ago as gun mags concentrated on them.)

1) The 45acp works pretty damn good in a lot of pistols. After trying a S.A. XD-S I was surprised how well it works in a small frame, short barrel pistol. A Glock 30S gets harder and harder to put down.
2) The development of the 1911 started with a .38 caliber cartridge and lends itself nicely to many calibers, even 10mm! I have a S.A. range officer in 9mm and I have to say it's my favorite 1911 shooter.
3) I drive a van all day. I hate trucks.
4) Pick up your hi-power then a CZ 75B. As good as the hi-power is, others are there with it.

No one said that others didn't copy the perfect ergos of the Hi-Power. It was the first, and still the standard by which others are measured. :D

I should specify that I don't mean physical size....like trying to grip a basketball. Yes, if you have toddler like hands trying to grip a Desert Eagle maybe challenging!

The new 'wondergun" is better than all that old pistol design you've relied on for the past 82 or 116 years...... don't even get me started on those obsolete revolvers from the 19th century!

On the same line...... "carried" doesn't equal "use"!!! :D This gun has never let me down in 40 years! How often do you shoot it? Once in a while! Maybe 2000 rounds total!

Which brings up another standard of..... ownership/carry = use. It almost never does.

The man with one gun knows how to use it!

Maybe that was true long ago when people couldn't afford a dozen guns and learned to use what they have but today it's completely backwards. Most people who own one gun do so because they're not into guns and own one for the "just in case"....like owning a fire extinguisher. Probably never use it but would be nice to have one.

I have several friends and relatives that prove that point well. My dad has owned a gun since about 1999/2000. It has never failed (my previous point) because he only shot one mag of 12 rounds through it when he first bought it!!!! Both my uncles are the same. One owns a Beretta 380 since the mid 90s and he bought 38spl ammo for the range last year. The other uncle doesn't remember what caliber his revolver is in. Neither are old or senile.

Methinks they printed this one BACKWARDS, the 58 is OBVIOUSLY a very much STRONGER gun as the frame was not weakened cutting the groove/slot for the adjustable sight! :eek:

Thank you for your acknowledgement of my post. It really could be difficult reading the gun mags of 40-50 years ago: all opinion and little fact for the new-by. IIRC, writer George Nonte, who authored several gun mags by himself under various pen names, put the lie to this one. Happy holidays!

The 1911 can most certainly be chambered in another caliber. The Super 38! :D
Any caliber other than this and the .45acp is blasphemy! :mad:
 
Anything that's not a 1911 is something else.....

`1911 style' Actually any gun that isn't a bona fide .45 acp 1911 John Browning design should be called something else. For instance:

That 9mm 1985 pistol I got isn't nearly as good as a 1911!!!:D
 
#2 and #4 I agree with.
The rest? Makes no sense.
 
Remember this one:

Pick any caliber for self defense as long as it starts with a 4...

Or

When it comes to ARs go ABC - Armalight, Bushmaster or Colt
