I know this is off topic, but S&W IS based in Mass so...
What do you guys think about this deflated football thing?
As you might guess, I'm inclined to believe Bill B and Tommy.

Did you see Belichick's press conference this afternoon? It's on the Patriots website.

He went into excruciating detail about the tests they did this past week.

He had two very funny lines,

First after he explained something he said he's not a scientist, he's not an air pressure expert and "I'm not the Mona Lisa Vito of footballs." Which made me laugh out loud.

Then, while answer some dumb reporters question about how vigorously they rubbed the balls during preparation he said he didn't know, but it was vigorous. "We're not polishing fine china here."

I think that this is going to come down to sloppiness in the procedure by the referees. I think they generally took a "Close enough for government work." approach to testing the footballs and didn't gauge them as they are supposed to.

Curmudgeon face on

If folks devoted as much time to the real problems of this country, as they have for this nitpicking football inflation situation, we'd all be in great shape.

Curmudgeon face off

Not interested in Tom Brady's balls, huh? Me neither. The whole thing is nuts.

I am wondering if they used the correct standard to calibrate the pump equipment.

Imagine putting the balls in microwaves, yikes.:D

I think they may set a record this year for the viewing audience.

I think the drive-by media need something to report except the same old line. I'm with the Coach and the QB on this - it's a big nothing. However, that said it's the New England Patriots and Belichick and they were caught once so the common thread is they must be cheating again - it only stands to reason - connect the dots and blah, blah, blah.

As the Coach said - "We are done with this - our focus is the Seahawks".

I'm not a Pats' fan but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn.

I believe Bill didn't know specifics but is responsible for condoning anything that will create an advantage. He's established that culture.

I don't believe Tom.

I'm studiously avoiding drifting into politics, but there are in fact very serious national and international issues that the so called news media should be focusing on, but aren't.

I don't think that's by accident.

I think it's much ado about very little. Belichick treats the media like **** so they go after him big time. Reap what you sow charming Billy!
In any event, the Pats ran away with the game in the second half after the flabby balls were discovered and dealt with.

My guess is the Pats equipment guy had a bad pressure gauge.

Let's move on.

"My guess is the Pats equipment guy had a bad pressure gauge.

I have to agree with that, this is getting old! More important things to worry about than some football teams balls! ;)

Ok....

....Who let the air out of the football?

Simply a tighter protocol for testing and storing the balls to prevent access is needed. The honor system went out a long time ago. You can't trust anybody.

Whether the inflation pressure had any overall effect on the outcome of the game is of no consequence. Somebody under-inflated or deflated the game balls before the 35 point rout. They couldn't have predicted the score ahead of time. Somebody sought an unsportsmanlike advantage. Somebody tampered with the air pressure to ensure an unfair edge in the game.
The 35 point argument is a weak attempt to excuse illicit behavior.

It's a little thing called "Integrity".

The New England Patriots proved years ago that they don't have any.
