I am potentially looking at picking up a CORE 5" M&P9 and based on good reviews and price probably getting the DeltaPoint Red-Dot Optic (probably DP2). I like a crisp dot and not a fan of the triangle so I will being with the 3.5 MOA Dot if so.

They sell these in 2 different variations ....

All-Mounts

and

Cross-Slot Mount

Which one is the one compatible with the M&P9 CORE? (and why if you don't mind so I know the difference).
Are they both exactly the same just the cross-slot is just the sight ... and the all-mounts is the same optic but comes complete with many different mounts for other handguns, revolvers, etc. etc.???
But if the Core has the mounts already with the gun I would assume I would not need the all-mounts kit just the standard cross-slot mount correct???

Please no buy an RMR replies as I do not plan on spending that type of money on an optic ... my gun will be for fun and basic range target shooting, etc., no competition as of yet so a good reliable Cheaper red-dot if what I will be buying (only in the 2-4 hundred at the Absolute MOST).

Thanks so much for the help and information! :)

SIDE QUESTION: ... I see that the Burris Fastfire III is basically compatible with the core using the #5 plate ... I know they sit a little higher but I do not care about the co-witness ... is this a good option as well? I saw a thread which I plan on bumping and asking more questions but figured I would ask here on the side as well.
I have an AR-15 with a ACOG type 4X Prism sight that has a picatinny rail on top and I thought about buying the Burris for that ... if it works for the CORE I may be able to use both when I want if I can zero the Burris to the CORE and it works well with the AR ... kill 2 birds with one stone.
But I plan on doing this either way whether it's the DeltaPount or Burris in using it for the M&P CORE and the M&P15 AR.

And with this being said about using for both firearms are the All-Mounts a better option to use it for both? (My thought is the cross-slot mount is used just the handgun maybe but the All-Mounts has many different extra mounts in the box for more application).

But between the DeltaPoint and this Burris it's only about 100 dollars difference ... would it be better to go with the Leupold for a better quality sights and fit along with the lifetime warranty and being an optic more veteran shooter would I'm sure recommend over the Burris?

I just ordered the deltapoint 2 from Cabela's. Just came out. You would want the cross slot. The all mounts version comes with the adapter plates that already come with the core

Cross mount works fine. I prefer the Deltapoint because I like how low it sits on the slide.

Perfect ... exactly the information I was looking for!!!

How do you like the Deltapoint 2?

Are the lock down points on the back of the unit accessible now? I know many had issues that they were hard to get to before to lock down after zeroing.

I am looking to get the II as well so I'm curious how it's working and what not for you on your Core (I would assume it's for a Core).

Any pics?

they just came available for order a few days ago. I just ordered it Sunday from Cabela's with an expected delivery of 7/9. The locking screws are allen heads instead of torx now. on/off switch. battery access on top now as well. Check it out on leupold's website. Can't wait to get mine. Yes it will go on my 9mm CORE 5"

Awesome!

I just bought my CORE 5" about an hour ago!!! :)

I will be on the hunt for something in the near future ... looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on it and seeing some pics if possible.

Thanks for the reply brother!

Just got it ... 10 day wait (gotta love CA)

i know the feeling. illinois has a 24 hr wait on long guns and a 72 hr wait on handguns. it really sucks when a missouri residend can walk into my lgs and take his gun home as soon as the paperwork is done.

Man I would LOVE for it to only be 1 or 3 days wait!!!

10 days is plain STUPID IMHO

Oh well.

Been still researching a bit on optics ... still debating whether or not I want to spend the $150 more on the DPII or just get the FastFire II

I hear the FFII is a great optic and for a little over 200 bucks I think a great deal.

I know it sits a touch higher but really for my weekend range warrior needs I have not need for perfect co-witness as I will "Only" be using red-dot ... so really the irons being more out of the field of view I think for me is an added plus.

But is there a disadvantage to having the sight sit higher on the FFII? I can still zero the dot regardless I would think right?

There is a bit of a disadvantage, the higher the sight, the more variation with different distances. When you zero a sight, you zero it at a certain range where the path of the bullet agrees with your line of sight. At close range this is not normally a problem, but at longer distances it is. Think of it this way, the point of zero is the intersection of 2 lines (one line is the path of the bullet and the other line is your sight line). I zero mine at 15 yards normally so when I have 25 yard small targets (or farther) I make some mental adjustments to the sight picture.

So short range targets within 25 yards is fine?

I don't think I will ever shoot any further then that as we don't even have a gun range indoors our out that is further then 25 yards for handguns.

So in that case either should be fine ... now if I go above 25yds then maybe a slimmer lower optic like the DP would be better then right?

In Michigan we don't even need a permit-Just go buy it and they do a background while you wait. I would lay odds they just lay around for the 10 days you wait. Otherwise how can I get one same day. It's the same Feds. On your Optic- I have the FastFire III The DELTAPOINT and the RMR . Between the 3 finding the Red dot when they were new was by far the easiest with the Deltapoint. Now that I have gotten used to them . They all work find, because with both eyes open your mind trains itself to transpose the dot on to the target. So you are looking past the glass not through it. I read an article from one of those Top Shooters. I can't remember who or I'd get you the article. What he suggested to learn your red dot on a handgun. Was to cover the Lens with a piece of electrical black tape. Then Practice Dry firing and finding the dot in the House. This did wonders for me learning to find the dot quickly. Just like he claimed it would. I even used this method outside for awhile. Another trick to get fast is to shoot big. Stand about 15 yars away and make your goal center mass hits and not groups.

Having all 3 red-dots I am waiting for the Deltapoint II's myself. Everyone seems to think they will be as good as what the RMR's are for durability. And that's really the bottom line. The FF III is a nice enough sight, but the over-all optic quality just isn't there compared to the RMR and delta point. If you can afford the extra $$$ get the DP 2. The Mount kit is a waste of Money IMO. I've used the RMR on my AR because ADM makes a nice 1/3rd Co-wit mount . I would assume if the DP III is as nice as they say -Mounts will soon be made for it. But you'll only need them if you decide to mount a sight on something besides your M&P.

Personally if Money is an issue I would get an APEX Trigger over the sight and save up for the sight. Or Buy the Cheaper sight and the Trigger kit. GL

Thanks for the info and feedback.

Ya the 10 day thing is nothing other then to make you wait ... they do the background and it's done and it sits there for the 10 days till you can get it ... CA thinks you shouldn't be able to buy a gun and take it home that day ... 10 days they feel is good for you calm down and not go shoot the person you were going to 10 days ago ... you know cause we ALL do this right? Geeez

As far as the optic I pulled the trigger yesterday and bought the FastFire III.
Main reason really is price and that its good enough for my weekend range warrior needs .. it won't take any abuse and I don't need my irons to co-witness.
But the MAIN reason really is I got it for half the price of the DeltaPoint.
I got the one With the picatinny rail for $195 Shipped ( I could have got the one without the mount for $178 but I thought I may want to use it on my AR at some point if I ever decide to upgrade you know).

So for $195 I could Never Justify spending literally twice that on the DP ... and NO WAY would ever spend 600 bucks on an RMR for my needs, hell thats close to the entire purchase price of the Gun the optic would go on!!! No Way).

So in closing I hope I am pleased with it, for the price I got no way I could pass it up.

Money is an issue so that's why of course but I have thought about the APEZ trigger but I have not yet shot this gun and for what I do I doubt I will need this amazing competition trigger ... but I guess I'll see once I get it and shoot it for a while.

So I am kinda lost on the black tape and paper thing ... I am willing to try something that will help but I'm not sure exactly how you were doing this.

Thanks again for the reply and info bro .. it;s much appreciated. :)
