Derringer suggestions...

I'm feeling that the 10mm is the way to go. Nary a prayer at finding the cowboy short in factory if I need to. What do you think of soft points vs. hollow points as far as velocity needed to make it work???

Since you reload for the 10 mm I would try Speer Gold dot:
1- 4397: 165gr Bonded, 2- 4400: 155 gr, 3- 4401:180 gr short barrel, 4- 4410: 165gr. I do not care for 180's in 40 SW, but a 10mm 180 gr Short barrel seems interesting. All seem to have possibilities, but one may give "better" accuracy, with expansion of hollow point. You could always try Winchester 135gr Ranger, I was not able to find the bullet for sale, but I like the Ranger bullets. 135gr + a case full of 296 + hammer bullet in = Could probably get1300-1350 out of the D, (but purely a guess), I do not know if it would expand or fragment!! Be Safe,

Where are you finding the short barrel gold dots for sale as bullets only?

Does anybody know what the distance from center of firing pin to center of firing pin in an American Derringer is? I'm trying to work out the angle needed to make both barrels shoot to to the same POI at a given distance.

Forrest: I saw the bullets on CTD website when I was doing search for #'s, I sent the link in PM. I tried to measure firing pin to firing pin on ADC 41 mag D, but could not get the calipers all the way into it. As close as I could get was 13.21 mm or 0.502 inches. Be Safe,

I have a Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV, with the driving holster. Worn on the left side of the belt buckle, gun is horizontal with grip facing forward.

You are right on the .45LC ... almost useless because only the last little bit of the barrel is rifled. BUT with 3-inch .410 you can use the 5-pellet 000-Buck in each barrel. I've also shot #6 add #8 loads, just fun to shoot.

Someone gave me this for doing a side-job. Not something I would actually use for carry as I have much better choices. BUT, Bond Arms is excellent quality. I also bought a .357 barrel to play around with (Huge Fireball Project).

American Derringer .45 LC - shot one of these before too. Very good quality from the 'old school'.

I'm pretty sure Bond Arms will make you a barrel fully rifled for the .45 LC only (no use with shot-shells). Call them, great Customer Service to help with your questions directly.

Snake Slayer IV - Bond Arms

I had the Bond 45/410 which was very well made but HEAVY in the pocket. Also, I found the lower barrel wasn't convergent with the sights. The handiest derringer I've ever had was a CobrayLeinad single barrel derringer in 45/410. It was compact , light and accounted for quite a few snakes, It also had a very secure safety. Unfortunately, I let the Cobray go to afford the Bond. Regretfully, now I have neither. There are days I wish I could leave the 340PD home and shove a Cobray in my jeans pocket.

I own one - see the photo in my post #8 up-thread. I almost exclusively shoot .45 ACP in my Bond these days, so ...

Erich is the reason I have decided to scrap the .45 LC. I think I'll find greater efficiency out of the 10mm.
I have a line on low velocity hollowpoints. The load is almost set.
Negotiations with the manufacturer to commence soon.
Bond Arms is not interested in my project unless they can sell me multiple barrels. They will not supply a 10mm to order. Kindly thank you no, I have an Encore already. It's used with one barrel mostly.
The American is prettier. I am hung up on pretty for this one.
