Tried a forum search to no avail, probably me.

Anyway - can anyone educate me on any appreciable differences.

Will be used for club level target matches - aprx 2000 rounds per year of .38 Spcl - very little Mag use.

Best

The 586 will be either blued or nickel-plated carbon steel. The 686 is stainless steel. Other than that, there won't be any major differences, if both guns are of the same engineering change/dash-number.

Either gun will do quite nicely for your intended use.

Carbon steel (586) can give you a (marginally) slicker action; coefficient of friction is lower for carbon steel. 586 models seem to run slightly cheaper.

Then there is the obvious advantage of Stainless (686) in rainy/high humidity environments

Many thanks for the quick replies. The shop opens at 10 AM - maybe I'll be shooting by noon. Will give y'all an update if I can make it happen.

Well - looked at the revolver yesterday.
Chrome was perfect except for an small area of discoloration the size of a dime behind the trigger on the left side plate. Kind of tan colored.

The right side plate screws showed signs of use - not bad but were not removed with a proper screwdriver; the right side plate at the very top and at the bottom/forward are very slightly - not sure of the word here - raised up; like there was too much metal in one place and it had to go somewhere. Again , this was very slight but noticeable. It was not the perfect flush fit you usually see on the side plate.

The cylinder play seemed okay and bore was very precise, and the trigger pull was classic SW. The trigger/hammer are standard, not target type. The serial number starts with A. (Question - Where can I buy to self install a target style trigger/hammer?).

So what do think? He's firm on $450. Oh yeah, it comes with a Galco leather holster but no box and papers.

Thanks again - Wayne

The 586 / 686 series are great guns,
Although "L" frames are between K and N frames they still use K frame grips.

Thanks again guys. Guess I'll just stay in the hunt.
I offered him $400 but he's firm and I just don't think it's in good enough condition to warrant more $$.
