Difference in ammo for a ported barrel and a non ported barrel?

My wife wants a ported barrel and we were reading her ammo box and it said not to be used in a ported barrel

What makes the ammo different?

They are Federal 40 S&W 180 grain FMJ FN

I shoot lead cast bullets in my ported 1911 all the time. No problem.

i shoot lead in my ported 3" 657...no problems whatsoever..

The only downside I see is that you do usually get a lead buildup in the port. I use a dental pick to clean mine out every now and then. They do tend to be louder than a non-ported gun.
