Dillon 650

30-06

Just got my Dillon 650 all setup and running. Could not be happier with this press, I have ordered other conversion kit to load 308,30-06,41mag,223 and 45acp. My tumbler hasn't stopped running since I ordered it, I'm all stocked up on powder, primers and bullets.

I bought a single stage press and load rifle calibers on that now. I still use the 650 to prime rifle cases, because of the case feeder, but that's about it. I don't shoot serious amounts of rifle calibers but I do shoot lots of pistol calibers and for the most part I love my 650. As I approach 50,000 loaded rounds just about everything has worn out! I think I'll send it back to Dillon this summer and have them rebuild it.

BTW, I always keep a sizer die in the single stage press to deal with obstinate cases. Crappy brass is the #1 problem with reloading on the 650 as it's just not very forgiving of wrong primer pocket sizes, wrong size case jammed in correct case, flipped cases, crimped primers, primers that won't punch out...

I once ran a 1000 questionable nickel 40 S&W cases through the single stage sizer and had not one problem loading them on the Dillon.

You can easily fix your 650 so it does not send spent primers a flying and it does not require Amazon.

Take a look (and no, I did not come up with this) - I think I picked it up off Brian Enos Forum:

The case feeder is a must have with the 650 .

Yes I agree. The 650 was really designed with the case feeder in mind. Without it, feeding the cases would be a pain in the butt. While it is an additional expense - after using it I could not fathom of reloading without one!

It's not that difficult. I don't load for speed and didn't want that tall feeder blocking my reach into cabinets behind the loader (I could route the electrical cord down through the benchtop). I pull the triangular part that pushes the cases into place back with two fingers of my right hand while my palm stays on the handle and reach through the loader with my left hand to insert a case onto the ramp. I then place a bullet on the case awaiting one and pull the handle.

I suppose that if I had a feeder, I wouldn't want to go back to feeding them as I do but again, it's really not a hassle.

George - Congratulations on the new press. I've been loading on my 550 for many years, and they are great inventions. I hope someone told you that the base shell plate for the .30-06, the .308 and the .45 (as well as many others) are the same. At least they are on my 550. Also, the two .30 calibers can share a powder funnel.
