Dirty Harry Model 29

I have little to add but pictures...

But I will say, I never considered a "Dirty Harry gun" to be anything other than a blued 6.5" Model 29...not a 4", not an 8 3/8", not nickel, certainly not a 629...and don't even get me started on the .41's and .45's.

In the name of authenticity, I believe it was Dade speedloaders that Eastwood carried in his pockets.

Great pictures!!! I need some Dade Screw Machine loaders!

Beauty !!!

any info on the grips ????

I've had this one since '75.

Long ago I replaced the red ramp front sight with a plain ramp. I have nice Herrett's stocks on it nowdays after years of swapping.

While it never belonged to Clint, Harry or John. I like this 29's pedigree much better - it's mine!

Sometimes though, when I am looking away - I could swear it was a Model 57...

I have also read that, at least the first movie, a model 25 was used in the shooting scenes with the 5n1 blanks. If you put a 25 and a 29 side by side you couldn't tell the difference

This is the story I heard too. Doesn't make it true, but I heard it.

Once and for all, for gosh sakes - THEY WERE MODEL 29's - NOT 25's, NOT bored out 44's to accept 45 blanks, or any of these other asinine stories that keep creeping in.

That book I spoke of in post #32 really needs to be written. That these silly rumors continue to be regurgitated as fact becomes more and more ridiculous.

For the newbies here, use the search function on this - it's been hashed out time after time. The facts are known and they're available.

I know how you feel, I've been a member of the Gun Media for over 20 years now and I have heard all sorts of silly Gossip too, that is the reason of my previous reply, I heard the Mode 25 stories over and over, but I know them to be false.

I have always heard it was a 29-2 with a 6 1/2" barrel. Millius stated in an interview that they wanted a 4", but they weren't that popular at the time and S&W didn't have any short barreled guns in stock. They did have the longer barrel so they went with it instead. After the movie they became immediately popular and the prices soared.

My Dirty Harry M29-2, 6 1/2"

My first Model 29 I purchased from "Kleins Sporting Goods" (Chicago) in 1964 was a 4" and had no problem getting it. (The first .44 Magnum service weapon in my area)

Oh goodie! Another Dirty Harry 44 magnum thread! Please...did anybody read post # 12? Been a member of this forum 4 years and this has come up at least every two months.

Doesn't anybody know that they used a model 19 because Clint Eastwood is only 5' 6" and the 19 was more proportional to his size?

Actually I am 5'6" and I own a Model 19 with the 6" barrel. When I stand in front of a mirror and recite the "Feel Lucky Punk" speech for the 68,000th time I look just like Clint Eastwood. It's amazing! The mystery is solved.

I don't care which m29 is which. I swear the bore in Harry's barrels look like 45? Blown up bigger for film.

I like my new s&w m29-10 it's the most upgrades any m29 will have.
My m29-10 is mine.

Then you shoot the mirror? Do you really do this I gots to know?
Really? Ok I have no mirror I just say it. Did I fire five or six shots that's what your thinking? Since this is a eight shot s&w 357 Magnum your luck just ran out punk. Lmao

This topic will come up here till the day I die. I wish DH used a 1911? Lol,,,,lmao

Or maybe a Webley Mk VI? That would have been pretty distinctive.

I heard from the friend of the brother of a cousin that dated someone's sister that the moon landing was faked.

Sorry for the sarcasm, I'll keep believing it's a 6.5" 29-2 and I appreciate the fine examples posted here-a great looking gun.
